Engine Bay Whine? 172 Cup

  RB 182
I recently bought my 172 cup and when I popped the bonnet I could hear a whining noise from around the alternator area, the bloke at the garage said he was changing the aux belt so that will get sorted. I did check after buying the car and the noise did go BUT it seems to have come back. Its more when the car is cold and have noticed its stiff to get into first gear when cold too but once warmed up its not bad.

Can anyone advise on what this whining can be? Gearbox?

The cam belt has been done and the car has 87k on it. The clutch is a little tricky to handle with such a high biting point, are clio's renowned for this?

Hope its not the gearbox as I've not had it long and I absolutely love the car!!!

I've got the same issue on my 182. Does the whine get louder when steering left and right?

Possible power steering pump in my opinion.

To be honest I can only hear it when the bonnet is up, I can't hear it when I'm sat in driving. I've not noticed an increase in noise when steering which leads me to believe it's something else. I'm guessing yours may be power steering related if that's what you're getting...don't hold me to that though.

I considered that and looked at a video too. It doesn't sound that ropy to be honest, the engine runs quite smoothly but just has this high pitch whine when idling.
I'm thinking I could get a video uploaded when I get chance to or find someone local with a good bit of knowledge who could advise me.
