Engine Compression Test OUT of car ???

Can I do a compression test on an engine which is sat outside of the car ?? If so how ?

You could do a leakdown test which is more thorough than a compression test.

You'll need to lock the flywheel though to stop the engine being turned over from the compressed air.

Aye, leakdown test is your best bet. You'll need a compressor as well.

Leak down if you want to do it.

You can do a compression test as well

You just need a starter, flywheel, battery and jump leads.

But because the engine is further away you won't be able to see the gauge, best get your mrs to turn the key while you stand by the engine. Don't forget to tell her to hold the throttle wide open

Thanks guys, decided to do both tests . Had to put gearbox back on to mount starter motor. Will use jump leads to a battery and exciter wire.
