engine conversion and MOT

just out of curiosity, if i were to change the engine in my car from a 1.2 16v to either 1.6 16v(k4m) or 2 litre (f4r) and it was not insured meaning it would be still registered as a 1.2 16v would it fail an MOT emissions test? emissions being higher :s ? or does it just have to be under a certain percentage on any engine to pass emissions test?
If i do an engine conversion i have every intenttion of insuring it, just wondering as a friend changed the engine in his car.
any help appreciated.

You will need to update the DVLA with the engine size, MOT has gone computerised now and the tester will input the engine size as being 1998cc if you change it to an F4R.
The engine size doesnt affect the emissions test it just needs to be under a certain percentage of CO and HO for it to pass at idle and >3000rpm .

best way to do it is do the engine swap after the mot have a while without updating specs then you'll have to do it before its next mot

you should note this is illegal though and you insurance will be invalid and im not speaking from experience........

mine's in for its MOT today, should be a laugh on what it fails on!! i haven't told dvla yet but its not really an issue

Ha! it failed :( (i knew that already)
