engine convertions

  1.8 16v clio
hi ther i was just wonderin how would i go about removing a 1.4 engine out of a clio and replacing it with a 1.8 16v engine is i all i need to do is just a strait swap i am a wondering will the fact that the 1.8 16v has power steering will i have to swap it over

I'd assume your on about a Mk1 Clio?

The swops not to difficult if so the old rack can be used just need to make up an idler belt or make some way round using shorter AUX belts so the pump isn't an issue.

You'd need all the pipework exhaust radiator engine, mounts, ECu and wiring engine looms The rest from the Mk1 should just match up as its simple electronics but you might need to make some stuff up so a shole swop from a 1.8 maybe better.
In the end its better buying a whole doner car but if your going to buy a doner car might as well buy a normal 1.8 16V and save the hastle.

It isnt a straight swap, to put in a 1.8 16v into a 1.4 8v clio you have to change all three engine mounts dog bone (back bottom), gearbox one (under battery tray), top mount (O/S) tbh why just not go and buy a 1.8 16v???

Chnaging mounts isn't difficult the difficult part will be the wiring looms and auxilary stuff ie rad to work and the engine to start and run.

agreed with above.. the mounts will be of anyway!!

It's the wiring loom thats the hard bit!

  Caddy Maxi
just use the 1.8 loom and ecu, it will plug in directly at the car end, job done, just wont have the oil dials working

put both the cars together and swap over one part at a time. you will also have to change the fuel pump.
