Engine cranes and stands

  Toyota MR2 Turbo Rev2
(sorry if its in the wrong section!)

as title, im thinking of getting my own engine crane and engine stand/cradle so i can work on my engine without paying a garage silly prices!
(I want to do the clutch, cambelt and aux belt along with all tensioners etc! Prob be about £800 at a garage wouldn't it? Do it myself for about £400 including the purchase of crane & stand!)

Is it possible to work on the engine with it on the crane, or is it advisable to get a stand/cradle?

How heavy is a valver engine roughly? engine stands seem to take up to about 300kg?!

Thanks,
James

only use a stand if your stripping and rebuilding.

And yes its fine to work on the engine with it just on the hoist, just lower it to the ground ideally, as at the end of the day its only a jack!

most places are about ten to fifteen pounds a day not the easiest thing to transport if you've got a clio right enough
