Engine management light came on! Help?

  Rb 182
 my engine management light came on the other day but I plug my fault code
Reader in and it detects the fault but doesn't give a code. However when I do the self
Test on the car it comes up code t on the display of the car. And sometimes when I'm driving the engine management light will flash and a 2nd fault occurs Which is a random/multiple misfire. The car does idle a bit lumpy. Even worse on a cold start. Any help much appreciated. Cheers. Oh the car is a 2004 182 with 52k.

It needs to go on a proper tester as the flashing MIL means its a level-2 fault and so not classed as "Generic" ODBII fault which is why your reader can't tell you what is wrong.

"Random multiple misfires" or "P0300" is normally ignition coil related so possibly the coilpack, ignition leads or even fluids in the plug wells but it could also be linked to a fault with the CTS or the H02 sensors.

It's going back to the garage (four ashes Renault) where I had the top end rebuilt only 3 weeks ago due to the drivebelt shearing off and wrapping round the cambelt. Took all the valves and killed a tappet. The bill was £1230. So they aren't charging me to diagnose this fault. Hopefully should know the cause of the problem this afternoon.
