Engine management light flash

  Black 182 FF
Just been out in the car and it was the first time the car has been moved since Tuesday. I drove normally in town for about a mile and then going round the roundabout into Asda the engine management started to flash for about 20 to 30 seconds and then went off just before I parked.

I've then done a similar 1.5 mile return journey and it's off. I'll check with my code reader for a fault tomorrow, but I'd guess as it's not on anymore that it'll not show anything.

Anyone got any ideas what the flashing means? Only thing I noticed was the outside temp reading was 18' when it's easily more than that at the time of driving and I wondered if that might be relevant.

A flashing MIL means you've got a Level 2 fault; its not so serious that it restricts the driving of the vehicle but it can do damage to the CAT if you don't get it rectified.

Normal causes are faults in the injection or ignition system but a diagnostic session will tell you exactly what and where so I'd recomend that you get it booked in somewhere matey.

Cheers. Any ideas of likely causes - I'm guessing things like coil pack, leads etc, maybe a sensor?

Could be any of the above. As mentioned get it plugged in, or if you know anyone with spares, swap them over to see if any change occurs

Get some CATCLEAN and slip that in your tank sorted mine out, started losing oil so put it down to oil not being burnt or being passed through and clogging the sensor first put sore of that Wynns Leak stop additive for your oil in cured the problem for a day or two (not losing oil either anymore) then it came back on so put it down to a dirty sensor. Once treated the car feels more punchy and more responsive obviously it does as it says on the bottle and cleaned the full system through. Passed MOT on emissions which I was expecting it to fail on worth a try for £16 off ebay rather than £82 for a sensor and whatever other costs the garage might sting you for ie plugging in a reader.
