Engine mount movement

I've noticed on shifting up and down on spirited drives it feels like my engine is moving around a lot. Which mount is likely to be at fault, can't see much movement at standstill.

Usually the dog bone, but that usually gives you a knocking on the transmission tunnel, polybushing it gets rid of the movement, unless the other two mounts are knackered too, in which case it'll just transfer the movement further forward.

You can usually put your hand on the engine and rock it backwards and forwards if they're knackered.

The top one by Aircon does have shredded rubber around it actually, little rolls that appear to have worn off

Thanks for the links Tom but I think I will go new Renault parts to keep it original and to keep it cheaper

Get one of these..

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vibra-Tec...830609?hash=item540b5bfc51:g:HM4AAOSw0e9UuKbH

or the engine mount and the gbox mount..

Or a used one..

Looks a decent price tbf, i paid £70 each for mine, dont be put off by the looks of it, mine has gone like that.

I was considering getting the full VB kit for my Clio but it seems that only the top mount on my engine is tired with the rest looking quite decent. Is the road kit the same as what K-Tec sell? If so the noise from those mounts looks to be terrible if Youtube is anything to go by.

Yes ktecs are the same but painted black iirc.

You can buy just the engine mount separately.

I have no extra vibrations or noise and i have all three fitted.

If you're going for a standard engine mount get a Kangoo one, they're exactly the same design as the Clio just a little stiffer, I know someone that's using one on his throttle bodied track/race car and that thing's ferocious.

Not sure how much it should move on start up or when revved. Anyone got a video?

Just get these, OEM quality -
Upper mount - Click
Gearbox mount - Click

Then polybush the dogbone or get a new one from Renault.
Are these definitely OEM quality?

Looking to do mine, keeping it standard but having bother finding genuine Renault ones. As an aside, is there a website for Renault parts similar to this for BMW?-

http://www.bmminiparts.com/

Finding parts diagrams for any BMW is easy but not quite as straightforward for Renaults from what I can tell.

Yes they are oem quality  providing they are febi bilstein (not so sure about the link for the gearbox side, but there are plenty of others available on the old bay of e)

There is www.renaultpartsdirect.co.uk which is useful, whether it's as good as the one you've linked above I couldn't say but prices are very competitive and service is top notch

Quality is decent on all of those. Genuine is expensive on the mounts. e.g.

Standard engine mounts, whether they're Renault, Pattern, or whatever; are all s**t. Some of the worst I've ever experienced.

Vibratechnics/KTEC are the only way to go.

I've heard some folk say that then as many say to stick with original due to excess vibration. I'm trying to cure the issues I'm having with the short shift kit I have.

Surely this isnt a true statement though!?

I want to change mine, but they have been on the car since new for the past 10 years so standard can not be that bad can they.

Managed to obtain a genuine top engine mount from a Twingo RS locally on Ebay which has covered around 8,000 miles, once I remove the old one will report back on the condition of old vs new. The kangoo Febi mount is actually the same part number as the one for the Twingo RS so hoping the genuine Renault item will last me a decent amount of years.

With this and the upper gearbox mount (Febi) and Race Evol dogbone I am hoping the front end will feel very much tighter and refreshed given mine has covered 129,000 on original mounts.

Old mount removed (after 129,000) and looks a little dead!

Yeah that's seen better days, I've got a race spec evol dog bone mount along with new standard engine/gearbox mounts. Made a huge difference to gear changes and very little engine movement now, only downside is the extra vibrations to begin with, mine settled down pretty quickly though

People do say after 100 miles or so the Ktec/vib ones do settle down a little. Even when i spoke to Andy at Engine Dynamics he said a poly dog bone and standard mounts are perfectly fine for a road car. As my car has done similar miles i think i will replace the engine and gearbox one next.
