Engine not turning over after rebuild.

  Renault Sport 172CUP
Have just finished rebuilding my F4R engine, have had it turning over by hand in the work shop (10x) , dropped it into the bay, tried turning it over one more time before starting it up and it's turned a little over half way then come to a stop.

Parts replaced, Big end bearings, APR's, Rings, Valves, Oil Pump, Water Pump, Cambelt Kit, All Gaskets + Seals

Has been timed up with the correct timing tools.

Sort of an over night thread before it can be looked at again tomorrow, any ideas guys?

Matt :)

Hasn't been tried off of the key at all and no it wont turn over by hand, almost like it's been damaged putting it in to the car, but certain it wasn't :/ thanks for your interest Sam

Check to see if its gone into gear if the box is attached and whip the cambelt cover off and have a gander. Cant think of much more apart from something not done up properly inside.

Will check that it's not in gear, didn't even cross my mind, it was getting late and panicking if I am honest, if that isn't the case I will try it without the plugs in, thanks guys! Appreciate the input, fingers crossed for tomorrow, update to follow...

It wasn't in gear :/ and it wont turn over without the plugs in! Rocker off, nothing suspect starring at me! Sump off tomorrow to inspect the bottom end. Any other idea's. Will turn 3/4, and then back 3/4's

Cheers guys, anyone nr bristol wanna come and get involved???

Yep, bottom end locking pin was in mate :/ no new oil jets fitted, sump off, nothing suspect either, could it have anything to do with the fly wheel? Really strange :(

Danny, not very clever I know! Least it wasn't anything more serious. Luckily I had another set of new head bolts, Should have it running by tomorrow :)

Fair play to you for even taking that on!

I wouldnt know where to begin! Im keen with spanners but keen and know-how are completley different things lol...

I was worried to begin with, allot of stigma on here that its too complicated for anyone but a Renault specialist to work on, but in my honest opinion I don't think that's the case as long as you have the right tools and I suppose a fair bit of mechanical knowledge,

Will say a big thanks to Fred over at BTM, who took a call or two off of my old man for torque settings, really help full and to have that sort of help out there!

My old man is a mechanical engineer recently retired, great at what he does - his words were "f**k THAT" when asked about changing belts etc lol

Just aswel you checked by hand again after dropping it in the bay as im sure a few people would of thought... Aww well it turned over by hand while it was out and try straight off the key

I reckon it would of made quite a racket if I did just fire it over :p

Lol at your dads response! Have you done your belts?

I havent yet mate no (Phase 1 172, 122k belts done at 77k) Im in a predicament as to what to do with it...

Its worth virtually nout in the grand scheme of things however its been good to me so far since April. I'm needing a 5 door soon though so would hope its going to last until i see what the new Clio 4RS is like. I will end up getting the belts done, i simply cannot let it die. I'm too much of a fan boy to let it. Also its number 2 of 172 of the exclusives, almost sacrilege to send it to snapped cambelt heaven lol..

Get everything you need, the guide with all the settings in it and a spare day. Lay everything out, make a brew and crack on. It's not rocket science. Just check and double check everything as you go.

She's running, sounding sweet as a nut too ;) pardon the pun!

Not sure about torque'ing used bolts up mate, literally had a set I ordered before ordering a full head gasket set which came with another set (dunno if that makes sense) meh, so used them anyway. If anyone's after a set, let me know!
