engine oil differences

hi all, right im doing a service and the recomended oil for a ph1 172 is 5w-40 synthetic, but i have several drums of 5w-30 synthetic lying around, A. would it be ok to use and B. whats the difference. cheers Mike

What damage could running 5w-30 cause? I'm changing oil soon and had seen a good deal on 5w-30.

5w 40 is cheap enough....
