Engine rebuild or new engine??

Hi all my 182 has started to to knock, not much just small amount. I'm trying to think what to do next rebuild it or new engine I've not got much money so cheapest best option??

Second hand engine is cheaper than a rebuild all day long.

can always re-build it mate, new bottom end bearings, line bore, check the rings and stuff...

I was hoping just bottom end bearings and crank regrind but that's past my knowledge. How would I know if I need oversized bearings etc..

Until you get the sump off you really can't tell. If you take the crank off you're looking at needing a new cambelt which straight away makes it more efficient to get a different engine with the belts already done.

You'd have the machine shop measure the crank journals to see if they're in spec.

thats ace thank you very much. so i need a new motor, i guessing the 172 motor is basicl the same as a 182 just different brackets etc..

what would need line boring?

When ever ive rebuilt endines ive always had everything re machined... not always needed i guess... but its peace of mind...

Slightly different cam cover cut using the plenum resolves the differences. Everything else is the same.
