Engine rebuild/recon engines

hi chaps, my sisters little 1.2 auto corsa snapped the timing chain the other day and pretty sure there wnt b much left of the engine internals! she needs to get a new/rebuilt/recon engine asap as she is 8.5 months pregnant and due to drop very soon so needs the car for the trip to hospital! anyone know any good places for engines?? cheers in advance

I'd avoid recon engine because you don't know what's actually been changed for the premium they add. Best bet is to go for a new lump (pricey), or a second hand engine from a scrappy. The latter will be much cheaper and it would just be the cost of labour for fitting.

As above, a cheap recon engine will generally be a worse proposition than one that didnt need fixing in the first place.

A1 vauxhalls in swindon are a good place to supply a secondhand engine, but bare in mind with any specialist breakers its dearer than private sales.

If you are going to pay for the engine to be fitted as well, it might just be less hassle to bin the car and get another one depending on how old it is.

Those chains normally make a racket for ages before they go. So she was unlucky if it went suddenly without rattling like made for ages first.

Try vauxhall breakers or look on the like of ebay for a engine with proven history or milage my brothers girlfriend got a 1.4 8v engine for her clio from there for £130 delivered and came with documentation but did new headgasket water pump and belts as a precaution as there was no proof of those being done


But as above if your looking for it to be fitted also its bet to weigh the car in as it is and get another car as it will be cheaper and easier

Not really any "used to" about it TBH mate, I still am, I do all the shows and loads of trackdays in vauxhalls still, I still have my mid engined nova (although just taken it off the road to build a new engine and compound charge it), still got my v6 converted 4wd calibra, and still got my 2.0 corsa on throttle bodies, I still help run vauxsport.com and I still do work for Total Vauxhall mate, dont use MIG much these days just cause its all got a bit same-ish TBH although did post a couple of times yesterday, and I have never been active on VSCC, .

I thought it was you, i used to have a 2.0 turbo charged Vectra, do you remember Graeme and ATC? it was one of their conversions, miss the boost for sure. Is Billing still worth a visit been years since i went up there.

Yeha I remember graeme, fellow who never quite seemed to get the hang of mapping autronic properly, lol
I dont recall the vectra though TBH.
Ive not done billing last couple of years, i tend to stick to the stuff like TVL and PVS where you can get on track or strip. Not really into static shows, like to use my cars not take them somewhere to park them, lol

yeah took a while to get mine mapped, ran good power and reliable tho.
