Engine transplant...how easy

  Audi S3 225

I need a bigger engine, but having spent so much money on my car, alloys coilovers, exhaust, headlights, etc etc etc, I wanna keep my car, but I cant stand the engine!!!

It’s only a 1.2 8v, and it was fine when I first started to drive but now all my m8s are going around in their vtrs and 106 gtis I cant keep up with em. I tried looking around scrap yards for clios but cant find any at all.

What I wanna do is try to upgrade to the 1.6 16v engine. Because basically that’s the biggest engine I can afford to insure, I had some quotes and its 100 quid more than wot im already paying on my 1.2 8v.

Where do you think I would be able to get hold of this engine and how much would it cost me, buying and getting it fitted. Also wot else is involved in engine transplants because I aint got a clue????

Thx for any help,

Allan

depends on what you define as easy.

1.6 16V for an older shape clio, wouldnt bother matey. Swap to a 1.4 or sell the car and get a better one.

19s, meganes etc will provide you with an engine.

What if this isnt a Mk1 Clio? Could be a Mk2.. especially since its "Slammed on 17s".. you cant slam a Mk1 (none wide arches) on 17s that easily.

dont forget...bigger engine means upgrading brakes bigtime too...you would be better off cutting your losses by selling the car and getting one with a bigger engine.

I think put a 1,6 16V in a Mk2 is not so big action, only front brakes have to be upgraded, the drums at the rear can stay.

But put a 1.6 16V in a Mk1 is more action necessary, because you need to modify a lot....I did it with my Clio Mk1...but now it´s unique and with its small modifications it´s enough to beat sometimes a valver. 172,5Nm at 3680rpm is that of what the valvers dream....;)

My car is y reg 2001, i think its mk2. This was probably one of the last cars before they changed the shape of the clio. because ive seen loads of new shape clios that are y reg.

Anyway, ive been looking round with still no luck, wot other engines would go in with few problems, i still think a 1.6 would be good enough for me tho.
