The 19th of June was a quick trip down to Le Mans, for the annual 24h endurance race. If you've not heard of it, please delete yourself from the internet.
Had a nice steady run down to Folkestone for the tunnel, leaving mine at 2.30am, nice and early! First time on the tunnel for me and I was quite impressed, much slicker operation than the usual dover/calais ferry. On the other side it was a sensible run down to LM in a 5 car convoy, sat with the cruise on most of the way and returning a very suprising 27mpg over the 500odd miles!
Le Mans was enjoyable as ever, this was my third year on the trot. We took a lot less with us this year compared to last year as a 3000 mile Eurotrip was on the cards straight after.
We left soon after the race ended on Sunday afternoon and the trip ended up something like follows:
Le Mans > Auxerre
Auxerre > Marseille
Marseille > Monaco
Monaco > Imola > Milan > Branzi
Branzi> Kufstein (via Stelvio etc)
Kufstein > Munich
Munich > Nurburgring
Nurburgring > Zeebrugge
Zeebrugge > Hull
Hull > Home.
The car was an absolute joy. I was a bit dubious before the trip as I'd only done 1500 miles in the 6 months I'd owned it, then I covered double that in the 2 weeks I was away for. Not a single thing went wrong, it really did lap up the miles. It was a lovely place to be for the long driving days and the noise it made through the dozens of tunnels was just glorious! It did 165mph GPS (170mph clocks) on the Autobahn with absolute ease before the limiter had its say with 1300 revs left to play with, it would easily be capable of 180+ given the chance.
A few photos:
The trip totalled 2979 miles, including 7 countries, €940 of fuel and €204 of tolls. Trip consumption was 24mpg, which I'd have laughed at if anyone suggested such a figure before I left!
And finally, one of my concentration face 4 up on the 'Ring!
Cheers,
Chris
