exhaust advise

Car  Clio sport 172 MK 2
Im looking into getting some lower to mid range gains out of my 172.Im not expecting too much but I was wondering what the best direction would be to take.I was thinking of starting with manifold matching and then fitting a new exhaust.I've heard and read many different opinions on whether or not there are any real noticable gains or not. What would be the best exhaust to get?A 2 1/4" mandrel bent or a 2 1/2".Would it be worth getting a high flow cat or sticking with a stock one.I've heard that you can sometimes lose back pressure changing the exhaust and actually lose power if it is'nt done properly.Would it be worth a chip to get the most out of the exhaust, and if so what would you guys reccomend.A group n ecu by someone like k-tec or a piggy back that be tuned live?Would greatly appreciate some feedback as I'm really unsure about which way to go,cheers.

2.5" bore is best. You'll not get much of a again even with a very expensive exhaust (Yozzasport / Orbisoud etc) IMO. I'd get a KTEC Stealth or Blueflame if I were you.
Others will comment on breathing mods / remaps etc, but generlly BHP gains per £ are low on 172 /182's as they're in a fairly high rate of tune standard.
