Exhaust is melting my rear Bumper! Help!

I recently put a 172 bumper on my 1.2, however looking today I've seen that it's melting the plastic:

Its just the standard hidden exhaust on a Mk2 Ph2.

Is there anything I can do to stop it melting further? Like something to put on the bumper to protect it from the heat a bit?
Or any way of adjusting how close to the bumper the exhaust sits?

Edit: Car is on coilovers if that makes any difference.

My standard exhaust never gave me any problems.. Only think i can think of is that the bumper hasn't been fitted properly?

How odd, I had my old stainless twin pipe exhaust around 5mm below my old mk2 ph1 bumper and it never did any harm, I was aware the backbox got THAT hot.

I'm going outside to check mine now though... lol!!!

That doesn't look like the standard Renault exhaust to me. The one on my 1.2 the tailpipe came out of the backbox and turned to the side instead of just straight out.

I know, I'm so glad I washed my car and found it now, before it's damaged even more!

I'm pretty sure it is the standard one, I haven't touched it, and it does have the little bend in it, it bends downwards not sidewards?
It looks like the fumes coming from the exhaust have melted it, rather than the heat of the metal - if that's possible. One thing would the exhaust move much when driving, it might wobble and hit the bumper at times?

No the bumper is definitely fitted correctly, pretty hard to do it wrong?!
Also thinking about it now, my old standard bumper had a hole in it in exactly the same place, and now I've only just realised that must've been the exhaust too!

It's not even that close either some more pics:

Edit: Found a pic of my old bumper with similar hole:

If you arent that handy then the easiest might be chop the top off and put a 90degree bend in so it points right down

It's probably been replaced with a non-genuine item before you bought it. Pretty much anything short of a bit of metal will just melt the same as the bumper is. Or maybe a bit of exhaust heat wrapping? Worth a try.

Argh Im so frustrated. I haven't had a chance to do anything to stop it yet, and I looked yesterday and the bumper's melted even worse :(.

And there's no way of fixing the bumper even when I do get the exhaust sorted, so I don't know what to do.
