Exhaust System Too Loud ?

  ITB 428 Ph1
Hi

I had my k-tec stealth exhaust system fitted yesterday and today I got pulled over and given a fine for £30 as it too loud.

I couldnt believe it, the bent copper said "any after market exhaust system fitted to a vehicle is illegal" and "who ever fitted it, could be prosecuted" ?

Is this true, should I fight this ?

Cheerz Correy

He also got his Db meter out and said it was like 90 !

LMFAO.

Got a de-cat fitted ?

Did you ask as to why it was illegal ?

The only time it could be "too loud" is an MOT testers opinion during the test and can be a failure. I'm fairly sure there's no actual rules on the loudness, but someone will clarify shortly...

Fight.. fight.. fight.....

Thought if a car was louder than it came out the factory then it wasnt technically road legal?

Copper was obviously in a bad mood, or you gave him attitudezzz

Yeh I got 2 £30 fines for my Yozza race system with de-cat, but tbh it was foooooking loud. They gave me the same bs, I assume you had to sign something saying it was to loud?

I've got the stainless steel k-tec stealth + de cat on my bus, and don't think it's overly loud TBH.

Yeeee but does it have a midbox? I had the supersport with a de-cat minus the midbox and it wasn't quiet at all, not as loud as a Yozza race but defiantly loud, pain in the arse on long A road trips.

As far as I was aware there was no legal decibel limit on exhausts, and should be fine as long as it doesn't leak and can pass the emissions test (if applicable). I think they can be failed on an MOT for noise at the testers discretion, but I'd imagine this is pretty rare.

Aftermarket systems in general are definitely not illegal, no idea where he got that one from. Although technically I think that they need to be "E" marked and shouldn't be louder than standard.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong with this? I am by no means sure on the above

Grey area, cops around here all think the same as what the OP has said, doesn't bother me at all now though with my BTB Stealth and cat fitted :)

Yes mine is the supersport, he also mentioned there was a campaign on modifications. He then went on to take pictures of my car. Also I was given another £30 ontop of that one because I undertook three cars then cut back in because I was late for my roast meal lol. I didnt give him no attitude at all, i was lucky enough to escape points.

i'd fight the s**t outta that. jobsworth prick.

EDIT: in hindsight only if i wasnt driving like a twonk, seems you were.

Only had my yozza a week or so now, and if I ever see a copper i'll just release my foot of the pedal. Not like I push it hard up from every gear anyway, im a tight ass on petrol as is.

To the OP, I have never heard of an aftermarket exhaust fitted being illegal....what exhaust are you running to be hitting 90db as my supersport with no-midsection reads lower?

Is it really that loud? Was thinking of getting a decat but as it's annoying for A road trips it will be even more annoying for M road trips :(

Not illegal as such, but coppers can pull you and fine you for them ;)

Don't drive like a dick head is my advise. PMSL at putting up a thread whining about a copper pwnting you for driving dangerously. Better by the day!
