Hey guys, thinking about getting an exhaust after christmas depending on how much money I get off of people because I'm supposed to be having it tuned on a rolling road at the end of February, figured I best get the mods done before I have it on the road!

Is there any exhaust that looks pretty much like the standard one with maybe just a bit more of a grumble and slight roar. (Like the K&N cone filter adds) If it's pretty much looking standard does it still need to be declared on insurance?

if its a cat back, i.e doesnt effect performance at all. ( just dont touch the cat) then youa int gotta tell insurance at all mate. they only care about performace parts. the stealth systems are good idea if your not up for a big change in looks but want some noise

Without the cat-back it doesn't really make any performance difference does it? Is it possible to change the cat-back alone to gain the performance pre-rolling road? Where can you buy the stealth system from and how much does it cost?

cat back wont make any performance difference, just sound and look better. umm k -tec do stealth systems, prob get them elsewhere too, google stealth systems for your car. prob get one for £200-250 or so

I think you're getting confused mate, You can't 'remove a cat-back'.
If you mean the cat, then you can remove it yes, and you will get more noise out of your standard exhaust but it will make next to no performance difference.

Could I put a sports cat on the original exhaust to get more performance?

you could put a sports cat on your standard system, but tbh its more than likely a massive waste of money and time. are you after noise or performance ? if its performace you might wanna look at other things instead of the exhaust, its not really the best option

Performance..I was getting K&N, exhaust and cams, springs and low profile alloys and bigger breaks than having it on the rolling road. So it's not just an exhaust on it's own, it's just a piece of the puzzle

Anything thats not factory fit you need to inform insurance.

Sports cats are good, De-cats are better.. my insurance brentacre actually insures de-cats but others dont

If you want a certain exhaust then sometimes a 1 off built one is good. i heard the place in cardiff is pretty good but dont know name

it all depends on each insurnace, just ring up em and say " how much would if cost if i did this"

But ignore the fag earlier.. any modifcation you gotta tell insurance, from exhaust, to air filter, to change of seats or the steering wheel

Aviva did that too, it cost me nothing to change to my K&N but then they charged me £33 including £18 for admin charges when I bought new alloy wheels even though I had alloys before as well.. lol

No, only if you're physically changing something on your car. But I'm guessing when you say 'taking it on a rolling road' you mean you're getting a remap?
If that's the case, then yes you should tell them, bit there's no way of them checking, so the choice is yours.

nah, mine was actually slightly better after my remap.

to your earlier questions, no an exhaust wont give you more power, a knn cone filter is likley to loose you power. Cams may be a good option but ive never heard of anybody do it with a 1.6.

Decat and a remap were the only things which actually made a noticable difference for me.

phoned insurance less than a week ago about my exhaust. thats what i was told.

Just need to remember that insurers will do anything to wriggle out of paying out for a claim.... therefore if they find anything which isnt standard on your car then they can void it

thats what i thought, but i phoned and said id put alloys and exhaust on and he said, does it improve performance? i said no so he said it dont matter then. hmmm
