Exhausts - does the novelty wear off?

Had my K-tec Stealth fitted for a week now, and I still can't stop smiling :D . I've never had anything approaching a sports/aftermarket exhaust before, so my Cup's spent most of the last week between 5-8k rpm with windows down so I can enjoy it.

Can't see how I'll ever tire of it...what about everyone else? Do you wish you'd gone for something quieter? Will I regret this in a few more months?

Hangovers, that's the only time you'll regret it I reckon. That drive back from Scotland when Em had to drive me in my car was sheer torture.

  Fiat Coupe 20v turbo
IMO No...I still blip the throttle on the overun to get the exhaust popping/flaming after all these years lol

I put a K-tec Stealth on my car and am now thinking it's a bit too loud as I added a sports cat to it not long ago.

May get used to it though:D

You will get pissed off on very long journeys, going at a constant speed. My ears are ringing all night after a long drive!

Good choice Matey! ;) Now get it decatted.

I didnt think the Ktec stealth exhausts made any noise. I thought they were just a standard style exhaust with a much better build quality. Anyone got a sound clip?!

Nope, never tired of it. I'm only tired of the fuel bill increase due to revving the thing all the time :p

Had a Magnex one fitted to my 172. It was great when you were having a blast but on the long journey to and from work (early morning and tired late nights) it got to be a bit of a pain at motorway speeds. Personally I much preffered the induction roar from my Hill Power induction kit which it also drowned out.

it did for me in the 172, N/A cars are just too boomy for exhausts, in scoobies or even 225s you can hardly hear the zorst noise in the car even if its shattering windows behind you, prolly to do with the air moving out of the engine a lot faster. I wanted to kill myself after driving all the way to france and back with the backbox done on my 172

which is why i would always recommend a custom exhaust.

my pro-speed doesnt drone on the motorway at all... :D

  Weeman sucks ****
I still wind the wondow down through hatfield tunnel and under the hertford north bridge most nights:D

Sometimes wish it was louder aswell. I want more pops and bangs though.

I've just got my pro-speed exhaust (brought from Gary G). Love the noise and I can't really hear it on the motorway unless I floor it. I much prefer it to my standard exhaust. I Cant really see myself getting fed up it as its not that intrusive at all really. (time will tell I supose !!) The only thing is the garage that fitted it have put it on slightly wonky and its pissing me off everytime I look at it !!

pah i could listen to my old 172 with supersprint all day long, even with hangovers made it more enjoyable, you'll never tire of it mark, winter months can be a b**ch though

exhaust on old car was 4-1 manifold, then straight through to just oen silencer at the back.. wasnt mega loud but was loud enough. with a stripped interior too, you end up growing out of it.. id never put a loud exhaust on my everyday car now.

Had an aftermarket through flow/free flow rear silencer or whatever they're called. Nice s/steel stealth jobbie. After 6 months I was sick and tired of it, truth be told after driving half a mile in the car I was sick of it. Was really. really loud.

When the fitter drove my car around the carpark it sounded sweet as a nut. But inside the car it sounded silly.

Good for headaches, attracting attention from chavs oh and scaring people by blipping the throttle.

Bad for surprising people... Everyone knows you've arrived before they see you or you knock on their door.

I now have an entirely standard system and while you lose some of the fun it does make for a much more pleasant drive. Car feels really strange accelerating v.quietly.

Yes it does where off mate, specially when you decide to go on a long journey and when you reach desination point your heads banging form a constant drone at 70-80 mph.

Well that was the case with my hybrid anyway. Il probably eat my words and get a nice system on my next car ;)

  Turbos.
Glad you are enjoying the exhaust Mark. I got mine delivered today, will hopefully have it fitted this week.

I heard NickyBs one last week, think the volume was about the same as my old letterbox k-tec on the 1.2. I don't remember hearing any popping on the overrun though, does it do that?

I am past the boyracer stage now which is why i went for the stealth, but i never got bored of my old k-tec, and if i still had it i reckon i would of made it louder.

If you get annoyed, turn the stereo up!

 I had a stainless steel scorpian exhaust on my R5GTT that popped and burbled alot. The popping is mini explosions of soot in the zorst. When the soot heats up it pops.
Also wastegate chatter sounds nice.

Now I have a 172, after over 14.5 years of different noises from the 5, the quiet is nice !!!

The novelty does wear off!!!:approve:

^ thought it was unburt fuel!!! ?

the unburnt fuel creates soot /carbon deposits in your zorst and when soot heats up it explodes

Can understand where your coming from....really loud exhausts are pretty gash.
