fair price for repair? powersteering pressure switch and shocks

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
hi guys,

my wife has got a 2002 172 clio cup, its done 60k

we have just had it serviced by a mobile mechanic who we have used before and he has told us that there is a power steering leak from the pressure switch and that the rear shocks are leaking.

he has quoted 124 plus vat t do the power steering pressure switch and 192 plus vat to do the rear shocks.

first off does this sound about right?

secondly, are either of these a common problem? and are there cheaper ways of fixing them? i ave a feeling that we had the pressure switch fiddled with efore because it was leaking but cant really remember, is there way i can re seal it?

i assume the shocks are expensive from renault so is there a better place to buy them.

the car is going to be sold within the next year to make way for a bigger car so i dont want to go spending loads of money unless i have to.

i think the abve prices must include vat because renault have just quoted me £113 all in for the pressure switch and £171 all in for the shocks.

  Lots of Alfas
Both sound a little expensive, both of those jobs are fairly straight forward to do with basic tools, the rear shocks are only held on with 1 nut and 1 bolt.

Both do sound expensive,

I got a p.a.s pressure switch for £63 inc VAT (from Renault two months ago), takes about 10mins to fit

I'm sure rear shocks aren't too expensive (~£40 each?) and as said again are really easy to fit.

it does seem a little bit expensive, have you asked as to why he's quoted that price?

thanks for all the replies.

i am a plumber so am fairly hands on but i dont know if i fancy tackling the shocks on my own, even if it is only a couple of nuts. or maybe i should just be brave, i just dont want to risk her having an accident if i do something wrong. she's got no life insurance and i cant pay the mortgage on my own.lol

i do have a couple of mates who do work on my peugeot who im sure would do it for cheapish but they're a bit of a drive away.

where is this pressure switch located? and how do i change it please? i havnt had a chance to get under the bonnet in the light yet. i'm sure i can manage this on my own even if i dont have the minerals to do the shocks.

thanks again, look forward to some more advice!
