FAO> all you that have stripped rears out your clio...question??

  Clio 172 cup
people that have stripped the rear seats, spare wheel, trims, sound deadening etc...

was there a noticable difference in acceleration?????

and did the mpg improve and by how much??

thanks

I would guess the weight saving is probably equal to the weight of a passenger(depending on size lol). So in performance will at a guess vary as much as having two people in your car to just having you in the car. ie not much, but worth it if you're looking for every fraction of a second on a track.

An extra second?

Search for Gray on here and look at his cars. stripped out quiet abit and is ALOT faster than a std 172. no engine mods either.

Also Mark Cup.

Mega stripped car and his is pushing out 200bhp per tonne on a std engine. might not seem alot but it all adds up.

I have taken the back seats out, mainly because Im starting to going biking a lot now, so I can fit the bike in more easily.

I have noticed no real difference apart from a bit more road noise from the back, especially when the road is wet.

As my 182 has no spare wheel etc, I havent lost much weight, so I didnt really expect much.

People like Bomber and Adey who have gone A LOT further with strippage will probably tell you different :)

imo unless you are doing it properly like markcup etc and ripping the lot out its not worth it

i had the back of mine stripped for ages and the fact that you cant talk to anybody at 70 the fact it ices up in the morning etc its just not worth it

put all the interior back in now,, it made no difference acceleration or handling wise and its so quiet i find myself what feels like poodling along look down at the speedo and seeing 80/90 lol oops.

I can feel a difference when im carting about a 25kg bag of poultry food in the run about so back seats plus spare wheel out of a Clio wont be far off that.

What you can feel and what actually is happening (difference in recorded times say) are two different things

  ITB'd MK1
makes a bit of a difference, but the extra noise gives a perception of a much larger gain that is really there most of the time. Going full out stripped to bare bones will be well worth it, but personally that's not a nice car anymore

Had my car weighed at local scrap yard last week, apparently weighs 920KG with half a tank of fuel and standard front seats (Which have the weight of a baby elephant LOL)..

With absolutely no interior at all, bucket seasts and a few more weight saving mods you can easily get the Clio down too 900KG even less If you go even more hardcore

IIRC 10Kg equates to 1bhp / per tonne?
