Torsion bar rear axle on a 16v Clio, how easy is it to lower, only want to go down two notches to get around a 40mm drop. If you have a guide or some reassuring words of ease would be great
Cheers
PS. Also anyone else that knows can post too :rasp:
Get the back on axle stands near the rear beam mounts - then take the weight of the rear beam in the middle on a jack...
Pop the caps off, put a 30mm socket over the end of the torsion bar with a long M10 bolt through the middle. Put a washer and nut onto the bolt and tighten it against the socket to pull the torsion bar out of the beam (do both sides)...
Jack the beam up slightly (to make the car go lower), then rotate/twist the torsion bars while pushing them back in until they drop in easily...caps back on - done.
Jack car up, 2 stands under sills, pull bars out using socket and bolt method mentioned above, set axle to desired height using jack, knock bars back in. They WILL go in with the axle at any height, you'll just have to rotate them to find where.
