The Boosh!

Hello all,

Had the car plugged in at work (twice) and it keeps on bringing up the below fault codes.

The exRTE hasn't got a clue whats causing it. He suggested spark plugs. Rang birchdown up to double check they are the correct ones and they are so it isn't that.

I've replaced the throttle pedal and the throttle body. Completely stumped now!

PS it only seldom comes on. Sometimes I can go for months without it coming on. Other times it comes on every day every 10 minutes at its worse.

Any advice really appreciated :approve:

First step is to get the fault finding manual for the relevant fault (DF002 DF129 DF254)

Going through that will tell you the pins from ECU - componenent so you can check the wiring, could show something up although with it being so intermittant if you test a circuit while its working your prob gonna find anything.

Could be wiring or a connector, My bets on a dodgy connector.

Did you change the knock sensor?

If you can spare the car for a day il find it for you.

Sorry to ask a really stupid question but i'm new here so don't know you or your cars history. Has it ever had problems with water ingress as the problems you've got there cannot be down to actual component failures... not that many at once even if its been to the moon and back several times? Mystic Mick say's its bound to be a wiring fault; What is the condition of the main ECM earth point on the front of the block? Also, same again but for general condition of the ECM plug/pins? If they're all good with no obvious signs of corrosion or water ingress then i'd run a continuity check on all the lines then check for sources of interference to.

Hi Mick,

Car is on 76k miles - has a full specialist service history and has been looked after throughout its life - No water ingress that I know of! (what is water ingress? Either way i think i'd notice it lol)

I don't know what an ECM plug/pin is or where the earch point is.

Thanks for posting :approve:

Bongy - Not changed the knock sensor but surely that wouldn't bring up all of those fault codes? I believe it is a dodgy conneection somewhere as well - it's really frustrating :(

Like i say luke, gimme a full day on it il go over the wiring, clean up the earths etc.

My lass will make infinite tea.

Lol, yes actually come on over. 3 heads are better than 1.

Who else is there?

I'm pretty sure Luke doesn't count as a head, from what I have heard maybe he would be better suited to tea duties :rasp:

Good point. My lass is promoted to tool passing. Me and Mick can scratch heads. Luke can make tea and clean the kitchen.

Will all the faults clear Luke, but just return? Is the knock sensor causing any problems with then engine? or does the RTE think that's a ghost fault? Connector problem would be my guess. Have a look at the plug under the engine fuse box. White plug, and check for any green gunk in there. Could be rusted (stupid renault design). Other than that, the only other main loom plug is the r107 plug behind the scuttle panel passenger side, but that's a beast so i'd be amazed if there was any issues there. :S Wiring and renaults are not a good combo unfortunately mate, hope you sort it :(

I can't get my head round as to why the DF254 is showing as active yet the rest are memory faults... maybe it is a case of a fooked KS and its faffing everything else up. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen a weird electrical gremlin on a diamond.

What kind of duration are we looking at between the screenshots Boosh? I've been reading Tech Doc 3873A this morning and all the faults seem to point toward continuity or interference. Time to get handy with the DMM matey.

LOL Dave, I'm an awesome mechanic - You mock but I once fitted a turbo and a SC to a 182 in under 2 hours....:quiet:;)

Name a day mate, your missis makes a smashing brew and catchups and beers with yourself are always nice. Just ensure you have got that shitting fire up and running as it was freezing the other day.

Mick - First two were two weeks ago, second two were taken yesterday morning

Engine and running wise it runs spot on - starts on the turn, when its warm it pulls like a trooper - No warning lights on the dash either. With regards to when it comes on it's exremely random. I've noticed a theme where its more likely to come on when you put fuel in it, but that may be me trying to find any triggar that I can.

Another thing I notice is that when it does come on every two minutes, if i turn the ignition on and of a couple of times (when it does it i.e 3 times ignition on and off, EML comes on 3 times), on the third time my emissions light will alway alluminate. Fault then goes away, emissions light goes off on its own after 3ish days of it not faulting, I don't hear anything for a week or two then bang, back to the beggining of this paragraph.

It hasn't come on for over a week now - Maybe it will stay off (not lol).

Johnny - The faults do clear (apart from the ones with a red light above) but yes, they just come back.

Jenic - STFU lol

Appreciate everyones input.

I will put money on it being something mega-ghey like a poor earth lurking somewhere in the engine bay. So, when's this mini meet taking place LoL

Probably :S something off the internal loom maybe. Strange one. the knock sensor fault still current? Like the original two pics?

I've got a few spare KS's laying about so can bring one to rule it out as a part failure

Not read the replys but , you have changed the throttle body and pedal.
Next check the wiring using the wiring diagrams that are on dialogys ( ecu pin outs ) , check earths/supplys/continuity between ecu and throttle body and the same for the throttle pedal.
Pay attention visually as you carry out your checks, if all ok change ecu.
Job done

ABS/Serv/airbag light comes on occasionally now since changing the brakes lol.

Anyone got a match I can borrow?

  172
Probably just because of the snow boss ( ABS/Serv)

Bet one of the resistors have come oout of the connectors under the seat, calm down dear!!

I am getting this same issues! Ran a test on it earlier and got kock sensor and tps faults. Any luck with yours so far?

Not yet but it seems to have fixed its self now :S Hasn't come on in ages. It will reoccur eventually though.
