Faulty 172 Alarm

Can anyone tell me whether you can disable the standard alarm, by removing fuse etc on a ph1 172. My car has the gearstick led, and pillar sensors etc, but when i lock the car the led doesnt flash neither does the alarm go off when i try to set it off.

Want to see if i can get it working for obvious reasons.

there is a fuse for it in the engine bay, usually on the bottom right of the fusebox (you will notice it because the fuse holder will be stuck onto the fuse box)
Not too sure if this will just need replacing as i removed my alarm :S
