Favorite & Most hated tyres!

Its tyre time for me again so I thought id see what everyone else likes and dislikes - Best dry weather tyre is what I want as I drive slow in the wet anyway! I put this thread in this forum so I would last a bit longer!!

My favorite so far: Yokohama A539

My most Hated: Pirelli P600 (although they were very old when I got the car)

My favorite is BFGoodrich profiler, really good allround grip, little wear out and some mighty impressive smoke when doing burnouts(y)

Most hated is probably Michelin Pivot I think. Had those tires on my old VW Bora and they sucked big time. Little grip and the tires were so hard that you couldnt do burnouts or anything, it just bounched.

  FRST and 106 GTi

Favorite: Firestone SZ40

Worst: Kleber, Camac, Dunlop.. and some other I cant remember.

I used to have Yoko A539s which I thought were pretty good, but have just bought some Toyo T1-S Proxes (195/50/15 - less than £30) and love them, they are just so grippy!

Go for the best tyres you can afford, many people forget that tyres are the only thing keeping you on the road.

The new Goodyear GSD3s are spose to be the awesome

*Just realised your on FT too, replied on there as well*

Ive used Yoko A539s for the past three sets of tyres...but thats got a lot to do with them being cheap rather than being the absolute best!

Im running 195/50 R15 michelin Pilots. For the way i drive i think theyre great. Havent changed them cos they were brand new when i bought the car over 7 months ago but i think theyre good, i know some people would disagree, all depends on how much punishment you put them through.

Best that I have tried so far: Toyo Proxes

Worst that I have tried so far: Continental Contisports

Love those Toyo Proxes (thanx Tomclio1.2:D). Cant say Ive come across anything that has been stand out bad, just none as good as the Toyos.

Best: Michelin Pilot Exalto, super grippy especially in the wet, expensive though.

Worst (from the point of view of the performance i was expecting out of them) Toyo Proxes

Best - Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD-2s (not had a chance to try the GSD-3s or Toyo Proxes yet)

Worst - Yokohama A520s. Nasty, nasty, nasty tyre...

Great in the dry as they stick like the proverbial to a blanket with no tyre squeal, but less use than a Chocolate Teapot in the wet. You have to drive around the fact that they are sh!t, which means you cant corner anywhere near as fast as you want to!! Grr!

Cheers guys - im trying to get a rough idea of what other people think. Read the Evo tyre review but it didnt seem to have much in common with what people think.

If youve got the original wheels, then Id get a set of four 195/50/15 tyres and ditch the 185/50/15. I found that the prices for 195/50 tyres were typically 50% lower than the same tyre in 185/55 size.

195/50 is a very common size, so you also get more choice - and the rolling radius is only a tiny bit less, so your speedo wont over-read. Id budget on £40-50 per corner for a performance tyre if you shop around - thats cheap!

Favourite - Uniroyal Rainsports (and Michelin Pilot Exaltos on my mates car coolspot007007)

Worst - bargain tyres....

  CTR EK9 turbo

Favourite - old goodyear F1 eagles, (not the latest shape, the one before) and michelin pilot SX

worst - latest goodyear F1s.

My Bridgestone SO3s have been really good but dont think they are good when hitting standing water. Grip is good and consistent wear. Nearly had them 2 years now.

Apparently SO2s are better and will be looking for these when I get new tyres in a few months (Mission Impossible) or when I get some 16" gold Turinis.

Usually go for Uniroyal Rainsports 1 as they are decent in dry, but exceptionaly on damp and soaked roads. Also found Avon Turbospeeds quite a good cheap summer tyre, superb grip and long lasting considering they must have quite a soft compund to get that grip. Yokos good but wear quickly in my experience.

fave - BF Goodrich Profiler G

hated - not a clue what they were, but the previous owner had them fitted to my old uno turbo, i think they could even have been remoulds
