Fcuk it - clutch went last night.

  300bhp MR2 Turbo

Clutch totally went last night had to wait 3 hours for a tow truck to pick me up.

The battery went flat and I had no heaters either.

Any one know what a reasonable price is for a repair - BB charge £372 + VAT which will really break the bank, theyre too far away as well so cant go there any way!

I feel rotten this morning!!

Did you not get any tell-tale signs before hand? Ie slipping etc.. Its not an easy job so would so i would have thought £370 is an idea to what others will be charging. Thats providing you find someone that will do it - garages hate our cars cuz there so hard to work on.

You should have left your engine running while waiting for a tow - heaters can really drain the battery.

Are you a member of the AA? - 3hrs seems asif someone was taking the piss.

I got the clutch at just over 60 quid inc VAT from GSF. Fitting was quoted at 6 hours by my local mechanic, other quote 12. He did it for 150 quid cash in hand and included fitting a new clutch cable which was a bugger apparently.

I had the engine on a while then gave it a rest then back on but I think having the sidelights and hazards on for so long did it. There were no signs the clutch was gonna go and Im sure the bloke I bought the car from had it done just over a year ago.

With the RAC - they sent a van within 45 minutes of me calling but my cars too low to put the straps round the wheels to haul it up. I then had to wait 2 hours for a D&G truck to come from Hammersmith. Even though theres a D&G in Orsett!

Got a few garage numbers to call including a mobile clutch fitter, have to see how it goes. My dads offered to pay. Problem is I already owe him £500!!

Mr clutch - £293.52 parts, labour and VAT.

Would assume a warranty as well, got it booked for 9am, they reckon 5 hours labour. Have to go and sit an Carnisseur for a couple of hours and try not to buy anything.

Finally smiling, a bit.

Yeah difference is the way ot is done. Think mine was a subframe out job whereas others take the engine out.

Hillpower etc I know charge more but they check and clean everything with the engine out so you get what you pay for. I was happy enuff with things so went the cheaper option.

Mr Clutch doess seem a good price. Id get that in writing or pay 100 per cent deposit as that way they cant ask for more if they then decide it takes longer.

you can do a valver clutch by unbolting the box and moving it to the side its just a bit tight.

thats what the haynes manual said, every one my dad spoke 2 to do it, wanted to dro pthe endine out of it!

and said it would be a 9-10 hour job !!

Checked my recipts, French Car-nection only fitted a clutch on Jan 7th last year. About 2 months before I bought the car!!

How bad is that??

My clutch was PROPER mangled, it wedged itself against the inspection plate and wouldt allow the engine to start.

Eventually I begged Mr Clutch to sort it, as they dont normally work on cars that arent running. Amazingly enough - they did the whole clutch change in 2 and a half hours! Just shows it can be done within reason.

I took my engine out to change them, very time consuming, but that time by Mr Clutch is damn good, Ex WRC mechanics? cause that is very good, lol
