Final Finish straight to wax ?

  Shed.
Doing a test between collinite on my bonnet and EGP. The level of gloss on my bonnet is unreal lol. Its my first time using Menz Final Finish and an SFX Pad. its far better than the megs pads/80,83 combo i had before.

Should i add srp, or do i not need to bother.

Collinite 476s? If so that's a Wax the EGP is a Sealant and the SRP is a polish, so you have to use them like this SRP>EGP>476

yer, i know what they are, i ment, after ive polished with final finish, do i REALLY NEED to apply srp, or will egp and the wax bond.

Im doing a 50/50

Wax will bond to FF fine. Not sure on EGP though. Try it anyway.

I would go straight to wax, you may notice a small increase in wetness if you use a glaze after it though. Final Finish gives such a nice look a glaze hardly adds anything.

If using EGP after it I would do SRP or Klasse AIO/ Carlack 68 first.

Told you the Collinites was good mate! Try some of the Supernatural you had over the top of it if you have any left, find a soft wax really finishes it off.

actually im suprised at the level of gloss its prodicing, its numbed up the flake after seeing FF in action lol. But it seems on par with EGP. Supernatural really does bring the flake through though its a good wax not got any left though. Ill be making to move to BOS in a few months, but in the mean time ill be seeing what EGP and Collinite looks like on black.

had the colt out today btw. 3 layers of egp, and 2 layers of 476s. Lookes f**king fantastic ive not seen the car looking so good.

Mate seriously, allow the BoS and just get Onyx, BoS is MARGINALLY better for looks (literally, barely any difference IMO) just better durability which isn't needed as you have Collinites on. One thing you will find is that the Renault paint has its limits, the orange peel effect especially. Better waxes may be warranted on better paint finishes, but on the Renaults I really feel that you can reach a plateau, spending s**t loads of money and not really noticing any discernible differences in terms of looks. Onyx really is a great wax anyway, seriously.

  106 GTi
The only real advantage BOS has over Onyx, the fact after a few washes it still looks as good as when it was just applied. It does look marginally better than the Onyx.

Is the Menz polish really that much better?

Which Final Finish? The 106FF? Which Sonus pad did you use?

Menzerna Finishing polishes are very good, especially PO85RD for just giving that bit of extra gloss over other polishes. You are best applying both PO106 FA and PO85RD with a nice soft finishing pad, I use a Lake Country Blue or SFX-3.

If you have Carlack Nano or SRP, that below Collinite make a really nice combination of products which not only look great but are very durable.

If you are after shine and flake pop and shine then I would skip the Swissvax and get a Zaino finishing kit. For under £60 you can get the Z2 Pro kit and this will outshine and outlast BOS.

  Megane R26
Cheers Tim - I need to get some pics up of my Zaino - I got the Z7 this morning, thanks for that.

Looks like another order for some PO85RD then... lol

Would you advise ZAIO afterwards?

  Fiat Coupe 20vt
If you have PO106FA that is good as well. Having said that though i was just thinking Megs #80 leaves a very glosy finish as well.

When I prepped the van (just doing a write up) I did use AIO on a finishing pad as well just to make sure the Z2 was going on top of a zaino finish. I did my wifes car though just with Z2 directly after polishing with the Menzerna and it definately bonded properly. This was about 2 months ago and I did half in CG Factory Seal the other in the Z2 and you can tell only the Z2 is left which is still giving amazing water repellancy.

The Beauty of the FA is that it can be used as a standalone one step on a polishing pad to clean up paint quite nicely - on a Menzerna Polishing pad, it does nice correction and leaves a superb gloss, that you can go straight tyo wax with.

If I have used Intensive Polish I follow up with PO85RD on a finishing pad. Defiantly worth having both in your box.

What is the formulation of the old FF do you know Rich, as I have that one, is there much difference between the old and new formulations would you say except for working in times?

  16v Dynamique
Isn't one the cerami-clear formula and one not? or is that the two Intensive Polishes. I know the non cerami-clear is easier broken down by hand as the abrasives are more brittle.

  Mito Sportiva 135
Possibly mate, I remember reading something in terms of break down time so may well be that but I will be working by PC so thats not really an issue, just wondering if the new formulation left a better finish at all, as the old one leaves a superb finish which would be hard to better.

Both FF and FA are pretty much identical. They are just developed for different car manufactureres at factory level. I actually couldn't tell the difference at all between the two side by side but with FA being newer every one thought it was better so we had to stock it.

Both are cerami-clear.I also findboth work pretty well by hand as you don't really need to break the abrasives down too much as they are already taht fine they don't marr like the rougher stuff.

  106 GTi
I agree with the above I have bottles of both on the go and can't tell the difference by PC.

Cool, cheers guys. Think mine could do with some TLC this week, although annoying as only just built up some waxy layer goodness again! ;)

^ That's what I will be doing later this week. Only roof and bonnet need it really but might as well do all of it. Shouldn't take too long. Michael, I did a similar detail last September, the thread is here:

Came up pretty well. Not going to bother with so many layers this time, will probably just go from FF to SRP or Sonus Paint Cleanser then wax. Although tempted to try the CG Wet Mirror Finish again.

urgh it kills me not to own a 172 .........

Looks nice, mine still beading well after about 2 days lol.

  Mito Sportiva 135
You can buy mine when I sell it if you want lol. Think it should last more than 2 days, I just don't have the time/ inclination to do mine so often now, once a fortnight at the moment.

haha, nah i dont wanna skint myself. only a student and ive got 3 points now so the insurance will be a killer, dont even know if i want to change cars at the moment i was looking at a 1.6 but now i dont even know if i will bother. I want to leave the country as soon as i can, hope fully in 5-6 years lol.

I must admit mine gets washed once a week now if its lucky, and i might keep it that way, car detailing is runing my life lol. Think ill keep it to a minimum in future and stick with collinite. f**k BOS lol, id rarther get the thing lowered.

  Mito Sportiva 135
Yeah mate, about a year ago I was a bit obsessive, spending pretty much a whole day a week on it - almost got to the point where I wasn't even driving the thing to keep it clean. Decided thats a bit sad so when I clean it I do a good job but just not as often at all.

I was also a student untill June so you can afford a 172 if you try, although I did buy it when I was on my placement year and making some money. I did end up spending way too much on loads of products, after a while you realise there is only marginal difference in them and also, it is only a Renault Clio at the end of the day and doesn't warrant top end waxes in my eyes, and anyways Onyx really does look the absolute nuts for the price.

What reg is yours and what mileage has it got on it ?

I could afford to pay the insurance each month and afford the petrol if i didnt go and drive it everywhere (which i would) but the servicing would be a killer, dont know if i could afford a new cambelt if i needed one and tyres would cause me a problem too, all those little things..... Right now im spending every last penny i have on car products lol. (exaggeration). Hopefully ill be able to keep it to a bare minimum now, maybe limit myself to a 500ml bottle of zymol a month and a new thingy of snowfoam every few months or however long it lasts, hoping i can get the rations right so it lasts the best part of 6 months.

Really am not up for buying car products like i was doing anymore, I like the Collinite finish anyway. No one except me notices the difference anyway. I guess if i just bought final finish, srp, collinite and the car wash every now and again id be okay, already got everything else under the sun.

  Mito Sportiva 135
My car is 53 plate and 38k miles on it at the moment. One of if not the best condition 172 around though, a few people have said so but not that hard probably as most you see now are battered! Petrol is okish, says 33 mpg but not sure I believe it!

Looking forward to getting a company car so I hopefully won't be as obsessive over it!

Once you get the basic stuff like PW, lance, mitt, drying towels, polish, sealant and waxes you shouldn't keep needing to buy stuff, although always tempting!

  Megane R26
I got the 85 twins and 106FA coming tomorrow from Tim, going to give it the once over with 106 and then put my Zaino back on.

Is SFX2 ideal for 106?

  106 GTi
That is my choice or step up to the Menzerna Polishing pad if you need a touch more bite.

  Megane R26
Thanks Rich - it just turned up from Tim, so will give it a try on SFX2

The Menz 5" pads are supposed to be quite decent - I'll get those next time.

God i tackled a badly swirled silver mercaedes today..... Fecking hell, jumped onto an sfx1 cutting pad with menz intensive polish. Forgot how s**t merc paint is.

I'm bloody loving 106FF, its bloody amazing stuff!! Best finish I have ever managed with my PC, and it was very easy to use!!

Love it!

Cheers for the quick delivery as always Tim ;)
