final questions before fitting my turbo kit

  clio 182
hi, i bought a used turbo kit a wile ago snd finaly have all the bits for it, im fitting a garrett gt28, i called rs tunning to book it in and said i wanted it to still be reliable and they said i would only be looking at 210 bhp and if i wanted to go further i would need internal work realy, i said i was looking for aroud 250bhp and the suggested i use megane 225 pistons and rods to get it to that bhp and still be reliable. ive heard people say it can go to 250 on the standard engine, am i better off just fitting the megane internals? they said i could then take it to 300+bhp because the turbo is more than capable for that. if i do fit the megae internals what is a safe bhp that is still ok with the standard gearbox and clutch?

they have offered me a set of 225 pistons and rods and im waiting for the bew quote for full instalation of the turbo kit, internals, new ecu (their own typhoon ecu?) and mapping.

The 225 roda and pistons arent that much stronger than the 172 ones i dont think, the rods are very slightly thicker i believe and the pistons are lower comp, but if your going to all that effort why dont you put forged pistons in?
As i dont think the megane rods are safe around 300bhp anyway??
You could lower the Compression with a thicker head gasket instead?
As for safe BHP for gearbox?? Its a guessing game but i wouldnt want to put more than about 230/240 through it to keep it fairly reliable tbh!
I think the standard clutch (in good nick) is ok for about 230ish bhp (from what i gather)

Engine dynamics do a full turbo conversion (230hp) for 3100 including thicker headgasket, only thing it doesnt have is standalone management, it uses a piggyback ecu

they have offered me the rods and pistons for £100 so i thought it was too good to say no to? with the megane internals in do you think mapping it to 240 is resonanble? i cant realy afford to go forged at this point and id probably be single

i called engine dynamics and their head gasket sounds like a possible option, he recomended scoff at efi so il probably call him after work see what he recomends

Thing is though you can get the rods and pistons for £100 but then how much extra to fit including new rings etc?
With the megane internals 240 is more than reasonable safe but i would have thought it would be pretty safe on standard at that level of power tbh especially if you went for a thicker head gasket to lower compression.

The ED 230 kit is all standard internals except for the thicker head gasket i think.
Chip had 250ish out of his on standard pistons/ rods with a lower compression (through head gasket + different head)
And danh90 has just done a boosted ph1, think that was on standard internals too but he got around 260ish i think off the top of my head?
Pretty sure the low pressure k-tec kit uses standard pistons etc as well.

Is it going to be a daily? / track only car etc?
As if its a daily i wouldnt be chasing big numbers due to the gearbox!

Pretty sure it was scoff who mapped danh90's car too.
Heard good things about him on this forum

for 100 quid thats a no brainer, do internals at that price instead of just a thicker head gasket, same amount of work more or less anyway as only a case of whipping the sump off and having the rods and pistons out once the head is off.

the cars neither a daily driver or track, i just kinda bring it out when the weathers good so its off the road atm waiting for a good summer. i have emailed scoff and he says a thicker head gasket from ED is good enough for around 230-240hp on standards. im waiting for the quote back from RS to see if its worth going for the 225 internals ect. im in the middle of emailing scoff on the options and everyone seems to rate everything he does so if he comes back with a good option il probably leave it to him.
