Finally upgrade brakes :)

After lots of reading up and searching for decent pricing ive finally bit the bullet and ordered a few new bits:-

Ferodo Ds2500 - Auto-Nation for £108.99

Brembo Max discs - G 172 £70

Rear discs with bearings and ABS rings + pads - NWPerformance £110
(the day before they went to £90 d'oh)

Hel Braided lines - brakes4u £53.89

Castrol Response Super dot 4 - Opie oils £9.55

Honestly cant wait to get these on!! my clio's braking has always been borderline shocking thanks to what i assume must be fisherprice break pads

I would of saved a bit and gone for Brembo hc, but should be a good setup.

When I first got my Clio, I was very un-impressed with the brakes, but I cahnged to a similar setup and I am now more than happy. Stops a lot better.

The standard setup is good, when the 172 was 1st released Autocar put it in a big group test. Found that in braking, it outperformed the Ferrari 360 and Porsche 996.

I've got to agree with Warren, standard brakes on my 172 were very good!!
But with trackdays in mind I went with ds2500,brembo discs, braided lines and 5.1 ferrodo fluid.

Alot sharper now with zero brake fade!!

also brembo hc are cheaper then brembo max anyways by quite a distance.

Maybe the factory fitted ones were fine, but the brakes that were on my Clio when I bought it were pretty crap when wanting to stop quickly. I'm not talking about extended heavy braking.

I am guessing a previous owner went for the cheapest of cheap on the fronts and the rears were due for changing. I think it hadn't had a fluid change either.

Seems odd really as the rest of teh car had really been looked after, possibly just a lack of thinking when it came to the brakes.

I suppose so, but I had assumed at least one previous owner (guessing a different one to the last owner to change the brakes) knew their stuff as one owner bought a full exhaust, had all the wheels refurbed and 4 x new conti sports put on all in the space of a few months.

Maybe they just ran out of money.

yep this is almost exaclty why my breaks were shocking, i wouldnt take anything away from the standard setup but if you try and brake hard in my car from anywhere close to three figures it will fade before you have stopped lol :S

So im quietly confident my new setup will be a world away from this!!!
