First car 98 1.2

  Renault clio 1.2
hey everyone this is my first post after just browsing for a few weeks but decided to put up my clio. its a 1998 mk2 ph1 1.2 , i got the car 100% un touched was an mot failure with holes in the sills but patched them up and painted them and got it on the road so far i have put on the car.
  1. set of 15" 5 spoke tsw alloys
  2. dtm skorpion back box and custom surround i made myself
  3. a full service including all the belts and alternator
  4. rear clear lens lights (no photos yet)
  5. 12" sub with amp
being as its my first car i have allot planned ha , tomorrow im spraying the bumper trim and side trim silver and i have bought the 172 spoiler also in silver and im going to be driving up to the breakers yard tomorrow in search for some dual optic lights , fog lights and surround and what ever else i see that looks good. as you can tell from the pics it needs a good clean and polish but the weather up here isnt letting up. i will be keeping this updated with everything i do when i do it , thanks for your time.

just going for the subtle touches e.g clear side repeaters , dual optics , colour coding , spoiler and lowering. obviously the exhaust and hole cut out of the bumper is not very subtle but the sound it makes always puts a smile on my face and its all in the driver pleasure.

needs some lowering goodness on the back haha, looking good though, ive loved my first clio through the ups and downs. :) nice first cars

Totally agree the monster truck stance is an eye sore but can't decide how I want to lower it , 40mm , 60mm or a set of fk coilovers . It's a work in progress though the 172 spoiler arrived and had been painted and lacquered just needs some 2500 wet and dry , makes the back end look 100% better.

Ive done quite a bit to mine now, first things that i bought was a 172 spoiler, ph2 back light and pressed plates, that was before i even got it on the road haha

I have only been driving for 3 weeks before that I was just welding filling and painting it after it sat in a shed for 2 years. I have seen your thread I like the things you have done nothing too crazy and they make a great impact on the car next thing is colour coding in doing the door strips and possibly wing mirrors tonight and tomorrow

  Renault clio 1.2
We all love out first car :) I miss mine ! Haha

its a good basis to start with mate looking forward to see waft you do!
thanks and its getting there i have just sprayed the door trim and spoiler the colour match is great just needs wet and dry. will probably upload pics tomorrow when its light.

Colour coding is good mate, it's subtle but makes the world of difference ! Any other plans ?
a few so far but apprenticeship wages can't feed my addiction ha :( , the colour coding on these isn't that easy I thought sanding them smooth was allot of work plus the 3 primers 2 paints and 2 clear coats il get the bumpers done in better weather , I'm thinking about the sport interior only thing is I'm not sure if the rear seats fit in the 5 door and just two front seats would be odd also lowering is pretty high on the list haven't decided if I want to go down the stanced route or just slightly to get rid of some of the arch gap. The front is screaming out for fogs so as soon as I find a set with surrounds il be sorted also clear repeaters and that's about as far as I have planned when I check those of the list il probably think of loads more don't want to go over board though.

haha I know that feeling ! Apprentice wages ain't the best mine were awful ! Lol you get through and it gets better !

each to there own on stanced, I'm not a massive fan I like driving car well and stanced cars don't lol! My old fiesta was lowered about 50-60mm and that was on rails ! Lol not sure on the seats but I'm sure someone else will enlighten you !

Painting is hard work , you've gotta be good and really patient , that's where I struggle lol

Yeah finishing up in a year and il be fully qualified and go for my level 3 , I like the whole tucked and camber look but the driving must be horrible and pricey on replacement bushes etc so probably just get some springs. Yeah painting definitely isn't my best trait can't stand waiting on coats drying and waiting to sand down coats it's a nightmare it's not going to be showroom quality but it can't be much worse than faded black/grey trim I suppose ha.

Yeah mate ? Sounds good , do your level 3 mate well worth it ! Makes it easier and also helps if you want to MOT as well, helped me no end!

And yeah it's not my choice but each to there own , haha I can do the little things but like you say no where near show room quality lol

  Renault clio 1.2
yeah that's always been the plan level 2 stuff is just so repetitive but it i need all the certificates i can get , at least with level 3 there's problem solving mixes it up a little. thank god i found this site though before i seen some of the beautiful examples on here the car could have have turned out completely different typical first car , 18's cherry bomb induction kit and luxus lights.

Looks nice that, makes a big difference ive often contemplated colour coding my bumper black bits but always thought it might look a bit to much.

Thanks , I think it really all depends on the colour of the car the gold clios I think look better with the black trim but the silver ones look pretty good colour coded I have just a random spur of the moment lets mix it up colour haven't seen many and have no references of how it would have turned out , with yours with the blue I think the bumpers would look good and spoiler but leave the door trim so it's not too much but just an observation I'm no expert.

I decided in the end to colour code the door strips and get a 182 black spoiler, i was going for a black on blue theme at one point, that was of course until i decided to get brilliant white alloys haha

Next task is to get it a bit lower, if the insurance allows it, i should get all the springs next month

Looks nice dude ! Level 2 is a pain , remove refit it's dead easy boring , but when your doing diagnostic work 24/7 you quite look forward to remove and refit lol
Yea although sometimes the remove and refit can surprise you just last month a 13 plate gtr was in needing back tyres 285/35r20 and bridge stones of all things heart pounding doesn't begin to describe ha.

Ahh sounds nice I was actually looking at spring last night for sport shocks front and back plus 60/40 springs 127.00 delivered I thought that was pretty good and not over the top , also seen a set of lovely alloys with a polished lip slightly deep dish.

Think I might just stick with my standard shocks, springs are only like £60 on ebay for APEX ones at 60/40, although with my 14" steelies the front end did sit quite low and scuff carpark pavements haha. As for those alloys, the Lenso ones are nice, look a bit like BBS's but a lot cheaper, my mates got some on his Corsa D sets it off nicely although i feel they only look nice when the car is slammed haha:)

i was looking at these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/15-cades-...s_tyres_Trims_Car_Rims_ET&hash=item232c8ee999 not the most expensive and im going for the silver and lilac or whatever it is.

i prefer 60mm front and rear. great finish and colour match on the trim. dual projection and fogs would finish off the front end.

mine 60mm with 195-50-15s

ooohhh their nice, just gotta factor in the price of tyres, I only paid £80 for my alloys and then £200 for a set of TOYO T1R's, but thats me, i skrimp cus im skint haha

and just looking at ben lees post, ive only just got away with 195/50/15's if the tyres were any thicker they would rub on the bottom of the spring housing

tyres are not an issue for me im a tyre fitter so i get them really cheap and i would fit them. im currently on 195/45r15's so thats not helping the gap any haha.

60mm custom springs and shocks. dont have any problem with rubbing ect from wheels even when running 205-45-17s.

only problem i get is on some of the high rubber speed bumps if i don't creap over them once the front wheel are over them the sills would catch for a second or two fine if i go over slowly.

also got a different front splitter than in that photo now sits lower and sometimes catches a little on down ramps in my local multi story.

once these tyres have worn out will prob go for 205-50-15 or 195-45-15.
want some spacers too to bring the wheels out a bit more prob 10mm or 16mm ones if there's enough clearance
