First shoot with my model friend (NWS)

  A silver Honda
From quite a while ago, never put them up. I badly need a decent flash gun or light box in some poses. Any recommendations (for a D40x)?

Location: a cold lockup

Subjects: my car + my mate who can work a cam lol

Untouched images apart from resizing.

The first one seems way too dark around the model, the strip light is to prominent if you get me.

Rest are good though, I like them :)

3 is the pick for me, although they all look a little soft - perhaps intentional?

dunganick - Cheers for the edit, good job :)

Well, Yes and no

I had the aperture high due to the not so great lighting. But i wanted the narrow depth of field look also. I used my Sigma 30mm f1.4 for all of them apart from one.

cheers all!

Nice shots, like you say, some flash would really make a difference, you got everything else nailed down well. Some eBay flash triggers + old Manual flash + diffuser could be a good start.. ask on http://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=35 its a Canon kinda place but they'll still play nice...

+1 This man talks sense, its by far the easiest way for off camera flash on location.

i do have a proper indoor two head studio flash kit which i experimented with outside using a battery inverter but it was a c**k running all the wires so i went for a completely wireless route.
i used the stands from my studio lights, i then bought a clamp which connects to the stand which enables you adjust the direction of the flash head and also hold an umbrella, on top of the clamp is a wireless receiver then on top of that is a standard canon speedlite. i already had a canon 420ez so picked up a second (so to keep the power of the flashes the same) on ebay for about £35. good thing is that you can buy cheaper flashes as they dont have to have a built in slave as they are connect to wireless receivers. the wireless trigger which fires them just sits on the cameras hotshoe.

tooks some pics so hopefully that will make it easier to understand.

Same set up as me except I'm using Nikon flashguns.

My white umbrella came from Asda... does the same job as the ones at silly prices in photography shops
