Fitting 182 manifold to 172

  Clio Sport xxx
hi all, i have just brought a 53 plate 172

how easy/hard is it to do??

think im defo going to get the K-tec 182 mani conversion with sports cat fairly soonish, and with a £700 outlay for the parts, i'd really want to fit the thing myself if possible.

Im mechanically minded - done an engine swap on my old golf plus fitted a cat back exhaust system etc etc. However, a manifold change is a b**** on any car with the engine insitu, and looking under the bonnet of my clio, the job really doesnt look appealing.

Rekon i should try it myself? Can anyone point me in the direction of any info/threads/guides on how to swap a manifold on a clio

Cheers!

Where did you bring it to? ;)

Always seem like way to much effort to me this does.

Kully had his done at Hill Power, but there is only circa 2 or 3Bhp gain....the car would be more driveable after this, but with this alone you're not gonna get the 10BHp as some people (myself included) were expecting to see. :)

^^^exactly what donnyo said, unless your gonna mod your car extensively (sp) its not worth the money

i done this too, but purchased everything separately (worked out a lot cheaper) though fitting was an absolute dog, fun though ;)

£700, i could think of alot more "fun" things to do than gain a few BHPs, Could have a lady of the night, for a night, do about 4-5 track days, etc etc.

Yeh read his comments in the thread mentioned above.... is that why he sent a PM when someone asked what bhp gains he got from the 182 mani and cat??

But if i do this i'd also get an ecu re-map and throw in a ITG filter too... surely then i'd be seeing an extra 10bhp? where else does the 182 get its extra power from then?

I've got the 182 manifold with decat, bmc cda and superchip and at the last cliosport RR day at surrey i got 188hp, so gains are pretty good

i've just got 182 manifold £200 ive had it sent off to be stage 5 ceramic coated £200 then £100 for decat so i'll have a better set up for £200 less, i'd try and source the manifold second hand

I've got one fitted to my car, b**ch to fit. didn't make massive gains in power, got it cheap though! :)

Whats the advantage to coating the manifold? some folk put that exhaust wrap round them, I know its for the heat.

Is the std 172 a 4-1 manifold? and are aftermarket manifolds any better than the 1*2 ones

  Lionel Richie
yep 4-1 on 172's

there's only 1 aftermarket one available, and its not as good as the 182 one

i prefer the 4-1 manifolds

Other way round. The old school tuning theory was that you stuck a 4-1 manifold on for peak power, and used a 4-2-1 on a fast road car to give better mid range torque, with a subsequent loss in peak power.

The primaries on the 4-1 manifold seem a bit short to me? I thought they should be longer for something with peak power at 6200 rpm. Only from what I've read though.

BenR told me the change in direction at the merge was too abrupt on the 4-1 rs manifold. It does look it.

i`ll got a 182 manifold and d-cat, much better acceliation and mid range torque! fukin bast**d to fit m8,engine subframe out + there ain`t any room to work lol, i`m planning cams, head work ect so should make a resonnable difference compaired to standard! gud luck if doing it ur self lol

they do make the car a lot more usable a low revs but you definatly lose some top end on the rollers the power was tailing off a lot quicker on mine

power was tailing off a lot quicker on mine

Mapped??

Mine felt like it gained higher up the rev range.
Engine note changed on mine too but this might have been to do with hacking the exhaust / decat to make it fit

Worth doing imo but i wouldnt pay 700

Right ok, the whole 182 manifold / sport cat kit from K-tec is bloody expensive. So i'm defo going down the 2nd hand route - can someone please confirm, that the 182 manifold supplied in the mentioned K-tec manifold/sports cat kit is identical to the manifold found on a standard 182? So if i was to source a 182 manifold from a scrappy, i could buy the 172 sport cat from K-tec, and together i'd have a kit exactly the same as the £700 odd kit from K-tec?

Yeah already seen that cheers mate, but will probably fetch much more then one from a scrappy. Anyway, my original question still remains.... ?
