Fitting a decat on a 1.2

  Suzuki Ignis Sport
Any point?....

Especially with a standard exhaust?

Tempted to fit one, but not sure what the pros and cons are.... obviously they're illegal and would fail and MOT, but i got an MOT in Nov, so if i want one i'll get it down after that.

Any advice would be great! :star:

i had a decat on mine before i got my cat back done aswell, and with just the decat i noticed a difference, on tick over sounds baisically the same but give it some beans and you can hear how much the engine wants to rev more :D

Does sound tempting, did u notice an increase in MPG?...

Getting a video tomorrow of my mates car who has a decat with a standard exhaust, so i'll keep u guys posted :)

But mines with a standard exhaust ;)

No idea, but i plan to buy a cat and smash the cat inside it ;)

Ghetto mod? :rasp:

so all u need to do is buy a std cat and f**k it up?

ahhhhhhhh yes

my car does 27mpg average

and for buying a cat go to scrapyard, or make your own decat pipe like moi :D

^^ Buy flanges / chop them off a cat. Then Weld in a suitable section of pipe between them.

Get the right diameter of pipe and it'll flow better than a butchered cat converter.

So if i can source a cat and smash the cat inside it, its just a matter of unbolting my cat on my car, and replacing it with the decat?

Welding necessary?

depending on how corroded the bolts are (normally very, depending on age) you may need to grind em off and refit with new.

pros of the butchered cat is stealth, VOSA can't tell if they look under car (iirc they do this ??? maybe??)
Con is that it won't flow or be as loud as a straight pipe.

think i am just gonna have a go with what you said point8...

get a cat, grind the ends of and weld them onto a pipe

i was thinking on doing this to mine haz. my cat is dying and will need replacing soon. i think they are pretty expnsive so i was thinking of a decat. although if there is a decrease in economy i think ill give it a miss as mine drinks fuel atm.

would probally have to be a diy job as i dont think they would make one specially for the lower spec models.

^^ I noticed better economy, but then I refitted with a brand new lambda - I would recommend that to you if your mpg is down, see http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=314560

Remember, as the rules of fluid dynamics state, the best pipe to weld inbetween your flanges will be the same size as the flange bore (same size as exhaust bore). Any expansions or contractions will drag on the flow (within reason)

Best o luck :approve:

ill get a new lambada then point8 cheers for that. dont suppose you would know if i have one or two? 1.4 8v 1999

your probably going to be able to get a decat cheaper than a cat, With the value of scrap cats unless you find a doughnut your going to be paying 50+

theres a company that sells them for the 1.2 16v cant remember who it was though they also made a sports cat, it wasnt k-tec though! i beleive they were about £80

problem as josh said is 2nd hand cats are worth a good bit in material, i beleive my local scrappy gets £50 per cat so they always just chop it off as soon as they take a delivery of a scrap car.

on ktec that was mate. it said a straight through decat made it idle irratically so they developed a sports cat and are selling it. cant remember the price just go onto ktec

Take off standard cat, get a metal brush shaft, bash the brush handle into the cat until its empty, put the cat back on, done..

I plan to do that, but would want a spare cat for when i put it back to standard. ;)

If its more power your after then id get a proper one made or do it yourself, the bends have to be the same diameter and i imagine the 1.2 cat even without the element is restrictive.
