Fitting aftermarket alarms

Right well as my car was vandalised (scratched and rear wiper snapped off) on saturday night and now the figure is up to 30 break ins and vandalisms in the last 4 days in felixstowe I would like to get an alarm fitted.
(Supposedly a gang going between Ipswich and Felixstowe breaking in and stealing radios, sat navs, phones etc but are not hitting cars with alarms)

I was wondering how easy it is to fit an alarm myself. I was quoted £235 fitted for a cobra system but I am fairly handy with in car lighting and sound so was thinking it might be something I could do myself.

Can you reccomend an alarm and how hard it is to install?

Thanks,
Si

Depends how complex the alarm systems are, i fitted a super basic alarm on my 19 and R5, but on the twingo being modern i'm leaving it to the pros, i'm fitting a sniper Pager alarm which for the money isn't bad, adding a backup siren and total closure to that, i could probably fit my alarm myself but would rather leave it to a pro, was quoted 120 to fit plus extra 30 for total closure, a lad on coupeclub/renaultonline fitted a falcon evo 4 with all the optional extras himself and i don't think he's a sparky either
