Fitting Carbon Lorraines.



Got mine through the post today, looking to get them fitted this afternoon but have a few questions.

The CL's come with 4 little 3M pads, not sure what these are for? They also dont have what looks like a split pin at the top centre of the pad like the standard ones I have also?

Also whats the bedding in process for these kind of pads being a quite savage compound?

Any info would be lovely! :)

this is purely going by what i've picked up

theyre just a straight fit in, but the lack of split pin explains why they rattle a lot

bedding in is about 100 miles or so.

would check with someone in the know first though! on another note, are you coming to bedford saturday?
 
Yeah i've read a couple of threads about them but nothing definitive. Hopefully someone like Fred/sidewaysdanny etc etc will come on a give me all the info I need!

Nah not coming to Bedford now, theres lots of things I need to do/sort for the Llandow trackday that I completely forgot about!

Bedding in does not take 100 miles. To make your pads work correctly you need to get get alot of heat in them so that the pads transfer a layer of material onto the surface of the disc. This is called “burnishing”, Your brakes will not work to 100% of there potential unless you do this. You will also find the alot of brake squeel issues are due to not bedding the pads in properly aswell. Companys like bendix recomend the 30/30/30 procedure wich basically mean stopping the car 30 time from 30mph to nearly 0. You may need to let the brakes cool off a little several times during this procedure, but never stop the car while they are hot. However for pads like CL's which are alot harder compound you may need to start off with say 5 stops from 30 to 5, then 10 stops from 60 to 10, then another ten or so from 100 to 20. You will know when they are burnished as the discs will be an even dulish grey colour on the friction surface instead of the shiny machined silver finish.
 
i used a pretty similar routine with mine (rc5+) and they're spot on now. they do get muchos hot when your doing it though.....

oh and they do rattle like funk when there cold.
