Fitting LED break light

I got an LED breaklight for the back of my car today and i thought that it would just be a case of connecting the positive and negative wires to the two paths leading to the bulb on the circuit board for one of the rear clusters. the thing is that this didnt work ??

its a phase one clio, Any sugestions ??

I tried swapping the wires about

Normally you connect one cable to the brake light power cable..you might have to guess a bit which cable it is. Then you should earth the other one at a good grounding point on the chassis. The one behind the light cluster will do the job.
