Fitting the decat to manifold with no springs?

I had my manifold fitted last week but didnt use the proper fitting kit, just bolts and washers.

Is this likely to cause any problems?

yes that joint need to be able to move as the engine moves a bit.

would get a kit off north west performance and get if fitted properly ASAP.

It will just end up moving your whole exhaust system and putting stress on stuff.

Its not too bad on mine with 5 engine mounts, as there is virtually no engine movement. I use solid bolts, but then again I have a flexi joint on my downpipe that I added in just before it joins the center section - which will let it have the small amount of movement it needs.

Would it be fine to use the springs from my williams manifold? If so, do I just put a bolt through the engine side and then use the springs on the cat side? How tight does it want to be?

buy a decent fitting kit, not the cheapest one you can find, the gaskets last far less than good ones, and they're a b**ch to get to.

Bolting it up solid will just mean it comes loose due to engine moving back and forth

Well I have used a custom downpipe from a peugeot, perfect fit and used a new pug fire ring/gasket thingy. Will williams manifold springs be ok to use?

I just use a Pug 406 2.0 Gasket - with the proper 'cups' in the manifold. Then two solid bolts with washers and nuts. I put them as tight as they will go, then I have my actual flexi joint on the downpipe lower down that was added in. As said though, ive got pretty much zero engine movement..

Before when I only had four mounts and used the springs on the joint and had no flexi joint I used to go through gaskets every trackday with the amount of engine movement..

Really?! Tbh I wont be doing anything like a trackday (not for a while anyway!) so do you think it might be ok?

Yeah will be fine, just be like a standard 172. My old mounts were probably sh*gged too allowing more movement.
