Fk Coilovers Vs H&r Coilovers

  MKV Golf GTi (240bhp)
Just wondering if there is a big difference between the two? as the h&r's are double the price was wondering if they offer double the performance

cheers

What i don't understand is that the H&Rs don't have adjustable damping. Like for the like the H&Rs will be better as the money goes somewhere but if you're a serious trackday goer then surely adjusting the damping is essential, so i probably wouldn't get either. Although FK do have adjustable versions don't they?

FK's aren't even of the same level as H&R's

i've got FK's, but i'll be changing

H&R's are setup perfectly, no need for adjustment (plus 90% of people won't know how to set up "damping adj coilovers" anyway)

have to agree with Fred, H&R are indeed setup perfectly,
all you need to do is get the ride height wright.
I suggest going lower at back

Bilstein if you're a track boy

the H&R's have Biltsein mono tube inserts, the Billies are identical to look at but have different spring and damping rates (non adjust)

Fks are good for the money and certainly far better than the other kits of the same price but you pay your money and take your choice the H&R's are well worth the extra. Like Fred says H&R's if you are on the road most of the time or the firmer billies if its a track ***** and you dont mind a firmer ride when you use it on the road.

FK's are £460 and H&R's are £750+ what benefits are you going to be getting by paying the extra £290+?

Will it be a smother more forgiving ride, better handling around a track or both?

Is there anything that lands inbetween the 2 in price / performance terms?

You can get H&R's at less than that if you know where to look.

It's definately smoother, the components are a higher grade the damping and spring rates better chosen. As for the handling i've not driven a car with FK's so can only comment on the ride.

Not really, as for pricing you go from FK's/Gaz upto H&R/Bilstien territory then on another jump to the likes of Ledas.

well it depends which FKs we are talking here, Silverline Xs are right up there with the H&Rs in my opinion

Stainless Steel, Koni Inserts you have the best of both worlds and they are still only £610 from us!!

Highsports may not be as great as they arent fully adjustable but for the price there is nothing that compares

I had Fk Konigsports and they were turd - admittedly I think they were faulty but now have H&R's and am really pleased - its low and drives well - what more could you want.
In my opinion well worth the extra - dont do what I did and buy the cheaper ones then regret it later and have to spend loads sortin it out.

i'll have to kinda disagree with you john, i have FK's and i've driven several variants of FK's on track (and H&R's and Billies)

on track the FK V H&R is similar

H&R's are on another level on the road

must say my h&r's are so good on these shitty british roads. considering the how much less travel there is compared to the orignal 4x4 ride height, they soak up all types of bumps much much better. i will be honest and say they could be a bit stiffer for the track, the rear mainly but sure h&r make a stiffer spring. saying that they're still s**t hot.

the best £700 i've spent on a car, that's for sure.

aye, i love my h&r's i was a very lucky boy with the price i paid for mine

out of interest where can i get the 'C' spanners for adjustment as i've lost them!!!

FKs ------ are ok on smooth roads, they have too much rebound damping and loose contact with the road on the rougher stuff, their rear springs tend to go coilbound if your pushing hard round a long corner. but in terms of value excellent if you want to lower your car alot.

H&Rs ------ as a good road / track shock very very good.... they have better damping characteristics than the FK's (more supple and compliant)

Leda ------ ask anyone who has been in or driven a clio with these on..... simply awesome

if i was to get new shocks and springs (not too bothered about lowering my car loads) could i get shocks and springs that could match H&R coilovers in performance or is there no point

just wondering if there is a cheaper option that still delivers near ride and hadling quality of the h and r's

I got some new collars from a company a while ago who stock loads of H&R parts but can't remember the name! I do have an invoice at home though so can have a look if you want?

Failing that, give mark fish/motorsport world etc a call.

i should be having a brand new set as replacements soon - shall be selling as now on H&R's

Any one had any experience with the KW coilovers? They fall in between FK's and H&R's on price?
