Flat spot is quite common. Ihad one on mine between 3/4th where the car seemed completely lifeless.
Could get a remap, may get rid of it

it seems to be from manifold area i think and service history is good as for flat spot it seems to go flat then pick up well what do you think

I fitted a decat and had my inlets matched and I had a serious flat spot at 3000rpm to 3500rpm. Had it remapped and all is good for me!!

Depends hwo bad it is all cars are different and all owners have different views of a flat stop significance.
Is it possibel for you to test another 172 see if its the same.

Also is the car due spark plug etc?

  clio
it could be due a tune/spark plugs but what could cause the ticking noise with it? ive had a listen by the carbo canister it dont seem to be that

All the engines are fairly tappety anyway, could be a tensioner or pulley in the timing area too? I had it on mine which lead to a broken tensioner! Thankfull it didn't take the belt out.

Does it do what i said though? The noise will dissapear high up the rev range. Also do you have any kind of induction kit?

flat spot could be induction kit. If its a viper or an open type, they are poor. The viper on mine made it flat spot like a b*****d. If its an open type filter that'll be sucking in warm air. If its felt like this recently, it could be due to the warm weather.

a remap is a daft idea, you need to find out what the problem is first!

can't say without seeing/hearing the car
