FocusST Detail - Day1 (56k Put the kettle on!!)

  Porsche Boxster987S
Right , where to start. Been waiting to get started on my mates car for a while now due to having other cars in before his. For a car thats only about a year old and 12k on the clock the paint on it was ridiculous. Swirls , holograms and deep scratches. This has been by far the hardest one yet but gave the best results.

Had a late start on it today (1pm ish) as i had only planned on doing the front end. (Bonnet and two front wings). The car was washed as normal with the usual 2 bucket method and some duragloss 901 using a sheepskin mitt. Was then clayed with megs quick clay and then we rolled it into the unit. No pics of it being washed though lol. Due to poor lighting in the unit and my mate messing around with the camera settings i couldnt really get any proper 50/50s to start with. Anyway onto the detail

The products
- Selection of both 6'' and 3-4'' pads (lake country)
- A heavy duty chemical guys polish (Cut 1.0) , medium swirl remover (swirl be gone) and a finishing polish (Chem guys ProPolish)
- Some quality MFs
- Kestral DA
- Some detailer (megs) used for pads

Masked the bonnet up into 4 sections and played around with the pads and polish to see what combo worked the best.

DSC_0032-1.jpg

Noticed that the swirl be gone used with the white LC pad worked quite well after a few passes but then realised the cut 1.0 worked more effectivley on some of the worse areas of the bonnet

DSC_0031.jpg

So i cracked on using a combination of cut 1.0 on a cutting pad(yellow) , followed by Swirl Be gone on the buffing/ light cutting pad (white) and topped with Pro polish on the (Black) pad for polishing.

How it looked after 2 of the 3 polishes i was using

Clear 50/50s where the masking tape was

Top left square and where the light hits it not done. Was looking promising:)

The shape of the bonnet meant i couldnt get the pad into the panel properly so i switched to the smaller pads but used the same combination

Finshed on a fine polishing pad(green) with the Pro polish.

And applied the PRoPolish with The black LC pad to the main panel.

And how the bonnet looked AFTER the polishing and BEFORE waxing:cool:

Now for the Wings , sticking with the same process and a good amount of patience.

Some swirls/marring (excuse my mates poor cam skills:dead:)

Now added some wax. Decided to just go with the dodo juice

And some final pics after 6 or so hours of the NEW front end. The shine and feel of the paint was unreal. Extremely pleased with the results:):) If you have stuck to reading this through to the end then thank you for reading. I will update this when i finish it off.

Paul

Thanks mate. Aprreciate that. Wish i had took the pics myself though. This is the first detail i havent photographed. This is about my 10th car now and im by no means a pro but on every car ive managed to get a 85-100% correction on all 10 cars. So im pleased with myself.

PS id love to detail a vee:)

What areas have you been looking at Paul for a unit??

started at hillington ---- LOL no chance.

A few around the Airdire - Hamilton direction have possibles. Although both of us need to view them. Ideally looking for it to house 2 cars. Bigger than clio size obviously.
