Found a Clio 182. Highish Mileage, any good?

Car  FF Orange Clio 182
I want to buy a 182 after test driving one recently, that one was black running around 200bhp apparently but the dealer didn't know exactly. I have found another locally in racing blue with 100k miles which looks good. It has a miltek, induction and uprated mounts?

It has grey alloys so will it be a cup?
Full service history, comes freshly serviced and a mot'd I believe

Could be test driving it tomorrow, what to look out for?
Am I right in thinking it should have just had cambelt and aux belt done at this mileage?

It wont be pushing 200bhp.
Check service history for aux/cambelt/dephaser work and who by.
If it hasn't been done, take £600 off the asking price.
Colour is nice, you will find better in the for sale section on here though.

Any other pics? Cambelt is done on mileage or age 'whichever' comes first. 72k or 5 years.

It was the previous Clio that had the magic 200bhp lee.

It's up for £2500, I was thinking offer £2200?
It's an 04 so if the cambelt is done every 5k it should have been done within a year? Will check aux/cam/dephaser are done.
Are they all worth £600 off?

Well you will be paying £600 to have it done so that's your choice. If you buy it for £2200 then you will be paying £2800.
Every 5 years, not every 5k
Hahah you can tell it's late. Yes 5 years not 5k. I meant £2200 if it had all been done.

That's not a cup it's a full fat, the better one imo. Check the history that the belts have been done. It's an expensive job so budget for that. One of the best colours which is in its favour

If the belts have been done, offer him a cheeky 2k and take it from there.
Just make sure all the paperwork is there to back it up and look out for who done the work. Its pretty much a specialist job so don't just see its been done and take it as gospel.
Read a few stories on here to make sure you don't get caught short.
If all is in order, you've found yourself a nice one there. Looks nice and clean from the pictures but its all bout the engine.

Everytime I see one in this colour I want a new one. Must have gaudi stripes though :p

Gonna give the stripes a miss
£2000 might be a bit cheeky.
Any give away signs for the engine apart from the belts. Noises etc?

Dephaser will rattle if its shat itself.
If the belts were done, make sure the dephaser was aswell, as its a belts off job to do it on its own anyway (in good practice)
Take it for a proper test drive. I.E taking it over 5-6k and testing all the gears. They tend to crunch between 3rd and 4th if the gearbox is weak.
Should get a nice kick at 4k revs.

The engines are very good tbh. The dephaser of worn will be noisy. You should be able to tell as it sounds like a diesel after a run. But if serviced properly they are a good car. Where is the car?

I don't miss much in the sales section
Was tidy car, Prpoer CUP model, has the recaro treadlines, cambelt/aux/dephaser done in last 12 months, original wheels/tyres, team dynamic 1.2s running Hancooks and another set of spare tyres. Gas flowed inlet, Miltek exhaust, filter, remapped..... Really tidy paintwork.

And I'm gonna strip it!! Track time awaits...

How much did you give?
Not much over the asking price of the one your looking at!

I looked at hundreds, but only viewed 2! Wanted the racing blue.... First one was 2 miles from me but needed cambelt/aux/dephaser etc and were asking too much. Then found the one I purchased and travelled 2 hours on train to collect, with 3 1/2 drive home!

Don't rush buying a good one, there's lists of s**t ones out ther....

Tbh I could have sold it today. Had a couple of people interested, most recent person offered to pay the asking price and leave a deposit. Getting a few bits done to it and have someone coming this weekend to view

I went today and got the price down to £2250. Few small scuffs on the front passenger alloys, bonnet full of small chips and a few over the body.
Full service history just from independents, all the belts were done at around 79k 3 years ago by an independent. He didn't know when the clutch was done but gear changes seemed fine.
Gave it a good drive for about 10 minutes. Made sure to listen to the engine before and after and it was definitely louder idling with a little bit of rattling but couldn't tell if that's how it was meant to sound. Gave it a mention to the guy and his reason was it's fully synthetic and they all sound like that.

Whatcha thunk?

Clutch may not have been changed, it will depend on how it's been treated. A clutch can do 200k+ if treated with repect, hammer it all the time then <50k.

What was the noise like on idle. Was it like the video, sounding a bit like a diesel or was it more of a ticking noise? The injectors are quite noisy, could just be them.

Thanks, really tempted. More of a ticking noise I think.
Comes with a months warranty for the engine and gearbox I believe, or 3 months for £2400 which I wasn't really tempted by, think the extra 3 months is it worth it?

You can pick an engine up for £200 and a gearbox up for £100-£150, there was one up for £40 the other month lol.
