wats this all about then? on bb tunings site, says stops altonator charging battery when on full throttle to give more power to the wheels? does it work? and how?

again, how long can you drive on just the batt powering your stereo, ignition, blowes, lights..........

It only does it on full throttle; I doubt very much that youll be on full throttle longer than your battery can support the aux products.

I think it works in a way that on full throttle your crank will not have the load of the alternator to turn, thus it can provide slightly more power to the wheels. Same sort of theory as if you put your air con on you lose a bit of power. This sort of power gain is big in the states where they use light Weight Underdrive Pullies on the crank which gives less resistance to the crank.

TBH I think it will work, but all the does is reduces the transmission loss a small amount. On its own you will not notice a difference I dont think but 100 pennies make a pound and all that.

Id be stranded if i used that on track.

And out of interest, the 172 already employs that with a smart air cont compressor that disengages at high rpm, cool huh.

All the new models disengage the compressor clutch at full throttle. The newer models also have variable compressors.this means the compressor output can be adjusted and so drain on the engine can be adjusted depending on the amount of aircon requested.this also means the compressor clutch can stay constantly engaged when the aircon is on. this improves fuel efficiency and makes the aircon system more efficient as well as the fact you dont keep hearing that clicking noise as the compressor clutch cuts in and out.the compressor is adjusted/controlled by the injection ecu.

the alternator idea is probably a relay system that cuts the alternator exciter wire so switching off the alternator meaning it doesnt put a drain on the engine.i doubt you would notice any difference and if your on full throttle a lot then your battery will gradually drain and it could affect injection components.the injection computer and sensors are very sensitive to voltage changes.
