Freshly rebuilt gearbox 'breathing oil'

  Some of a Clio 1.8 16v
Hi there fella's. Thought I'd pop on here to see if any of you could shed some light on a rather odd fault that's getting me a little bitter and twisted.
Ive recently gone for a bit of a spend up on the clio to make it ready for this seasons track days. Part of this was getting the gearbox rebuilt by a reputable highly recommended company. The box is back and fitted now but the gearbox oil I ordered didn't turn up in time. No trouble though as I had stored the oil I took out. I put that back in so I could run the car to its mot but when I got there the top of the gearbox was covered in oil and it was running off the subframe. It clearly trailed back to the breather. There was then a problem that meant the car needed to make another quick 15mile journey. I cleared the oil up and headed off.
On arrival same scene greeted me. To the point the car got an advisory on the mot for oil leak!
Iive since drained the box and put the 3.1 litres of the new gearbox oil in once it arrived. Problem remains.

I spoke to the gearbox company today and they said there's nothing they could have done that would have caused this and the only cause could be too much or the wrong oil. None of this adds up though as I used the exact oil that came out the box before it went away.

Anyone who knows they're way around a gearbox and could shed some light on this would be greatly apprecited.

You've got the correct breather in yeah? You aren't putting too much oil in so if the breather is correct it's only fair they take a look at it again as there's clearly a problem.

The gearbox breather is the one it had before the rebuild. It didn't go with the box to the company. I've taken one of these boxes apart before and the only thing I can think of is the plastic shield thing above the gearset could be missing? The company say this wouldn't cause the problem though and that it just supply's 5th gear with oil.

So are thy saying the spray shield is missing or not?

Obviously there's a problem... Very "reputable" this gearbox specialist is turning out to be!

I'm calling them a reputable gearbox company as so far that's what they've been and I'm not keen to change that until I'm certain of what's happened here.
When I asked about the possibility of the plastic shield being missing they said they can't specificly remember my box but they certainly won't have forgotten to put it back in. They also said even without it fitted it wouldn't cause the oil to come out the breather.
At the moment I'm trying to work out if there's a way of seeing the plastic sheiks without gutting the gearbox.

Cheers for the replies so far.

You've had a box back from a rebuild and it's leaking. First thing they should of said if you've told them that over the phone is bring it back in. Any thing else and they're not worth a grain.

as everyone else has said, with the correct amount of oil, with the drain plug fitted correctly and the N/S shaft in properly there is nothing else that could be left out by you!!

the company should take it back straight away as an after care service reguardless of them "being sure its not their fault"
