Front door window rubbers - are they a b1tch to swap out?

Debating whether or not to bite the bullet and buy both of the window rubber surrounds for the front doors. I know they are knocking on for £200 per side, but I'm more concerned about actually fitting them.

I believe that they have metal sections within them, that can easily be bent or twisted. Has anyone done this themselves and was it a right ballache? Hopefully getting a practice run on a scrapper Mk2 Clio soon - but it's not the removal of the old parts I'm bothered about - more the fitting of the new ones.

Any advice at all?

Cheers.

So, the very helpful neighbour got the Mk2 Clio rubbers off his scrapper and I gave them a quick scrub over, leaving them out to dry.

They are in a lot better condition than mine, so hopefully will go on well enough. Also bought a aftermarket replacement wing mirror from eBay suspiciously cheap but it looks to be good quality overall, tbh.

I just hope the ribbon connector inside the mirror fits correctly and works as should. I've long since lost the demisting function on one mirror and since I had the car from new, the temp has always been 7C higher than what it actually is! Each mirror sounds like a salt grinder when you fold the mirror in and I think the main spindle on the driver's side is rotten now.

A good time to sort the mirrors out, if I'm out for replacing the seals too.

A little like mine. Darren. I don't think these can be repaired in any way as the rubber looks to be bonded to the metal that has rusted.

I was very lucky to get both front window seals from this bad boy which we had taken in swap - always on the look-out for them. I did then have them removed and fitted by a Bodyshop as to not bend them in anyway -

The rear seat hangers are a B..tard to remove - but are easier to come across as they are the same ones on the Mk3 too - I'll drop you Guys a message when I aquire some mint ones.

When you think these parts are now either N/A or a fortune to buy, little donor cars are worth there wait in gold. I got a message last week asking if I needed anything however it was a Mk3 car when I HPI'd it.

Is that rust under the rubber door seal the actual door rusting or the metal inside the door seal itself?
The demist function on your mirror might just be the heating element on mirror.
One of mine failed a few years ago. I got a pattern part mirror off ebay and it's been fine since.

Its the metal inside the seal corroding. Common issue on the older renaults.

And Ford. And VW. Does anyone make good ones? 😂

It’s such a shame isn’t it. Because if we (petrolheads) had the time/space/money - we could have saved so many cars back in the day by advising others to protect certain areas. The inner sills and arches for one.

Cheers 👍 The reason I ask is because I've got the same on my 182. At least now I know it's not the door rusting 😊
Are the seals bonded in or just pushed in? I've never taken one out before.
