FSE Power Boost Valve

Hello,

I am probably going to order the KTEC Front Big brake conversion kit thingy tommorow. Now I was wondering if I should order a FSE power boost valve aswell. I got a pretty big flatspot and its worse the colder it is. Its between 2.5k and 3.5k (approx) in the rev range. Its more noticble nearer 2.5 but your still feeling it in the 3s. Now will this get over it or not? I know KTEC, according to there price list, say they dont do one for my car, but I have seen them advertised for it. So I might ask them if they can get one.

Just wondered what you guys/girls thought? If thats no good, can you think of some other way of getting over the flatspot. If I leave the gears to the redline and then change I seem to drop to the end of the flatspot in the next gear, so it takes a bit longer to get going again. Its worse when just acclerating in one gear though. You can forget a quick exit from a junction when its cold.

Yer i will vouch for Hi- Spec they are very good and their prices are very good and they are very quick at fitting their own kits.

Got my lovely 4 pots and big discs there !!

Your thinking of the KTR 4-Pot caliper brake kit. I am on about just the big brake conversion. Its £175 excluding delivery and vat. Its all I need in my RT really. Its got crappy brakes as standard but they should be a bit better after the conversion, you know, being nearly 3 times the size and all! :D

Is our lambda sensor ok mate? that can give you a bad flat spot
How do I check? If its in the cat that will be cool cos I am getting rid of that in a few months when I get a new full system.

a PBV (really an adjustable fuel pressure regulator) wont solve your flatspot. you need a tweakable ECU or chip, a good Renault specialist and a rolling road session. adjustable fuel pressure is useful in later stages of tune but by itself is not a wonder-mod.

If the car is standard at the moment I would suggest trying to solve the problem before doing any modifications. Give it a good service and check over. A power boost valve is only a way of increasing the base fuel pressure, if you have done nothing to the engine that requires more fuel then it wont show any improvement.

i meant the price as a rough comparisson, if the 4 pot is cheaper mayb the basic kit is also cheaper?

Ah haitch, I see.

I will look into it. Cheers.

As for the flatspot I will see what happens after the service. But saying that, its been serviced before and its still been there.

PBV is an adj fuel pressure reg with a twist, it has a rising rate and the diaphram is a tade laerger and more responsve to manifold vacuum.......so baseline changes are stronger.

Is it an old 1.4 RT? If so I didnt think you could get PBVs for them?

With the big brake conversion (that Im thinking about atm, its either that or just discs and pads for £99 which I reckon is pretty decent and wil b enough for my 1.4), dont you need stuff off a 16v as well?

Before I ordered the kit I thought I would go check the old bank account. So now I will be waiting untill next month for my coversion. It wasnt a healthy site.

It says the kit fits a 1.4 RT, doesnt say anything about needing anything of a valver.

And yes its an old RT. But I swear I have seen adverts for it for my car. I might be remembering it wrong though, it was a while ago.

yeah for the big brake conversion youll need the caliper off a valver, as the discs are bigger - i just got the fast road kit in the end, the 99 quid one, and thats good enough for the power you can put down!!

steve_rt - is there any chance you could post up some pics of the new discs. Ive been thinking about getting it for mine instead of a 16v setup, but it would be good if I could see what they look like on the car.

cheers

DTWD - I think the kit your thinking of requires "Girling" calipers which take vented discs instead of solid ones. Probably best to check to see whats on your car at the moment before ordering.

According to the website, it contains everything for the RT. Including caliper extenders. I will ring them up on monday and see what they say. I have decided to get them this month after all. As I got a family friend (who is one of the best mechanics I have ever seen) is servicing my car in the next few weeks, I will ask him to take a look after I have had a go at fitting em. Chances are I will do something wrong, so its better to get em checked over.
