fuel gauge,

just a quick one, is the reserve tank on the 172 massive, as if I monitor the ammount of fuel Ive used and miles covered, then look at how many miles are left till the next fill -up, there doesnt seem to be enough fuel gauge left unless it stops on the R for quite a while.... im averaging about 41mpg since I picked it up, it this about right??, i dont go less than about 85mph on the motorway..

Have you made the trip computer read "-----" for "Miles Remaining"? The petrol light comes on just after this point when the gauge is right at the bottom. Ive then done a couple of miles after this point and not run out. It does give you loads of warning.

yeah youll get the red light come on and when you fill up youll get 40litres in it only. Think its a 55litre tank, plenty of emergency juice.

The fuel warning light comes on when theres about a gallon left in the tank and the miles to fill up display goes to ---- at this point.

Can get ~45 litres in if I fill up as soon as the light is on and the tank holds 50 litres, so about a gallon.

lol, the orange loght doesnt seem to come on relevant to were the needle is on the gauge, only when theres less than 40miles to go.

On all my clios that Ive had (latest shapes) the fuel gauge has never seemed reliable. Also does anyone else seem to use the the first half tank faster that the second according to the gauge??

lol mine does that m8. First half your thinking " feck Ill be filling up again soon! Then bottom half drags for ages!

snap.. the first half flies...on my last car, a fiat brava, i could do 100 miles without the needle budging, very strange, thanks for the advice lads...

Well by todays little experiment: Red light came on and i drove 5miles* to said filling station and managed to squeeze 44litres in. Looked in the book tonight and its a 50litre tank, not bad.

*those 5 miles were done at 100mph
