we had this on the track car, it would randomly blow the fuel pump fuse. did it once leaving a petrol station we got 100 yrds before breaking down.

I can not remember what it was exactly but we did not replace the pump, it may have been a bad earth.maybe if you pm my brother (barron) he will be able to remember what we did.

Spoke to himtoday, he seems to think ours blew the fuse twice, and has never done it since. He doesnt recall doing anything. but we always carry a spare fuse in the car.

May be just check the connections and earth.

is it blowing on cranking or ignition?

I couldn't tell you yet as I stuck another in and turned it over. Do you know colours/route of cables? might run fresh cable from pump to fuse and earth locally

kept doing it to me went through about 5 fuses, ended up taping up the loom that went to the ecu in the bay so it was completely sealed... hasn't happened since. Just presumed water ingress.
Notice that it happens only on or after wet days?

Ours blew our second fuse straight away on second crank, how many fuses have you tried?

Has the car got wet recently? If so try some electrical cleaner and get it dry.

Try and get a reading with a multimeter and get a Reading for both ignition and crank.

Running new cable would not be the best idea, I would see if you are getting the right sort of Reading out of the fuel pump first as that could be the problem aswell

Cheers for the responses, car hasn't seen water in a few weeks now apart form being cleaned saturday.

What wires do I need to test on the mutlimete, any pictures would be a great help.

Cro-Clio, which part did you tape up? I haven't looked at anything in the ligth yet so got a pretty vauge idea of what I'm looking at at the moment!

I'll try another fuse later tomorrow!

Cheers guys...

We had a car doing this!! The 12V positive feed to the upstream lambda sensor was earthing out, had rubbed through and was popping the fuses!

Was the main bit of loom leading right to my ecu that i taped up and havn't had a problem since. It only blew after it had been raining overnight or I was driving in the wet.
Havnt a clue if thats what it was but it seemed to stop it

I’ve just had the same issue. Wires melted on the wiring loom side of the connector to the lambda / oxygen sensor and randomly blowing the 30 amp fuse.
