FUN cars...

  Z4
I've recently gone from a 172 cup to a 225 audi tt and in a strange way, regretting it.

The tt has many plus points over the clio, believe me, but I really am missing the fun factor! I drove my brothers 1.7 puma last night and had sooo much fun, throwing it into the corners like nothing else, yes it's lacking in the outright performance, but the revvy little engine matched with the handling had me grinning from ear to ear.

'fun' is hard to judge, I think the tt isn't fun due to the large amount of weight and the haldex isn't anywhere near as good as I thought.

What fun cars are there?

I'm seriously considering chopping the tt in for one! I still want decent build quality and a good looking car mind.

Was thinking teg dc5, mk1 focus rs, things like that? Any reports?

Cheers :)

Can't you have 2 cars? 106gti, ph1 172?

I have a puma btw. Great 'fun' car, little shame about being underpowered imo.

Thought about it, but I'm only 22 and I can't be dealing with paying tax and insurance twice tbh.

If the puma had 170bhp it would be a truely awesome car! Shame.

If the FRP had 200bhp it would be one of thee best cars ever made!

I'm 23 mate and I couldn't have two cars or a TT tbh.

I do love the TT's maybe the grass isn't always greener.

Bet it feels good driving it at your age tho.

Nothing i've ever driven beats a valver for fun. Grip grip grip rev rev rev and they sound animal.
It's all about the MK1s.

  53 Clio's & counting
my 1st valver was great, 160,000 miles, hill power stg1 chip and a modded air box, used to scream its nuts off and sounded great at 7800 rpm! lol

  Ph1 Clio V6, Ph2 172
A Mini cooper S wouldn't be bad as fun car. Great little chassis and with a 160bhp supercharged 1.6 motor. Play around with the pulley and mapping and an easy 200 will be on the cards. Also has a fairly decent quality feel to them. If you wanted to have a real hoot, buy a propper mini, spend a few k on a decent 1380 motor and box. As much as I love cars that do 160+mph, I still think its hard to beat one in terms of grin factor and gocart handling.

The most fun car I've ever owned was a 106 GTi. Diablo red, 78,000 miles and fairly standard other than an Ecosse ram air filter, de-cat and Pugsport exhaust.
The breathing mods do make a difference. Not a huge one, but it's noticeable. The handling is amazing and extremely predictable, and I thought mine was really comfortable on long journeys too. They're quite cheap these days too, and only insurance group 13.

If I got offered a good one for a good price I'd buy it as a second car without question.

Im worried im making the same mistake to be honest.

Getting rid of the cup and buying my uncles 56 plate Audi A3 2.0 T S Line off him in 4 weeks. I have owned the cup from new and every one of the 65k miles has put a massive smile on my face!

If something never fails to put a whopping great smile on your face, why change??? People usually only change when they get bored of something or want to look a little bit more flashy to their mates etc.

To me, that does sound like a mistake mate. :dapprove:

id try a ph1 focy rs - that is a classy bit of kit.

Tempting.

My only real concern is that it's a lot of money for a 53 plate car! I'd be afraid prices would plummet..

The interior isn't that bad, it's no tt on the inside, but I've seen a hell of a lot worse.

Another contender would be an impreza p1, mmmmm!

In a way, it's tempting to get a little cheap vts/106gti add a few breathing mods and save myself thousands! Not sure though, would be a little bit silly maybe?

Not a fan of the mini, that smile would soon go when you look at the fuel guage and see it's empty, again, and your mate's in your ear 'why do you keep buying birds cars?' lol. Over rated tbh.

  Golf R soon...
FRS! The interior is so so, standard focus with bucket seats, shiny metal and a push button starter.

Its an awesome car to drive though, especially in the corners with that trick front diff.

Not rapid but can't be made to be ;)

most mcs make more than their 163 claimed bhp due to being a boosted engine. the facelift was 170hp. as said a 15% reduction pulley and you will be looking nearer 190 hp minimum. add an exaust and intake and you will be 200hp.

from there on the world is your oyster, cam and remap will show 25hp, manifold, bigger intercooler. 250 is pretty easy for under £2k if buying new. 2nd hand parts should take that to around £1250

as a bonus the tritec unit is solid as feck and chain driven so no cambelt issues. also the 6 spd box is a joy to use.
