Once you've set the cruise control/speed limit, it won't let you go any faster or slower, regardless of how far you push the accelerator, but if you needed to speed up in an "emergency" you push the accelerator to the floor, until it "clicks". This disables the cruise control or speed limiter, and lets you accelerate normally.

my 172 does this aswell but doesnt have cruise control.

It's in your head, there's play in the accelerator pedal at full stretch in my 182, presume you have something similar!

Dunno dude I've never looked. I do know that, in the 182 at least, it is definitely a saftey switch. Firstly it's documented, and secondly it works
