Gaz's Ph1 track project.

So last year, myself and 3 (yes three) of my cousins decided to jump on the track day bandwagon. I seen a GTI-6 on here that JoeyD was selling and snapped it up:

After getting it ready and doing a few track days at the tail end of last year I quickly became bored of car sharing, especially with 3 other guys. Something needed to be done. As the Pug has no chance of ever being road legal again, it will have to be towed everywhere which meant out next car would have to be road legal.

Anyway, went out last Saturday and picked up a Titanium Ph1 from a local member. (LeeMcKew).

The car has seen better days tbh BUT after stealing it for a bargain £225 the problems never bothered me half as much as they should've lol.

Spec:

2000 X
113k
Massive history
Raceland coilovers
RS Tuning map
Jamsport matched RS inlets
KTR group N mounts
New rear beam
New rear brakes/bearings
New aux belt kit

(For £225 LOL!)

Bad bits:

Bought the car with a noisy top end
Bodywork has seen better days
Tyres are all illegal
Gear linkage problem
Possible immobiliser fault
Battery knackered
Some terrible wiring on the engine loom
Alternator pulley broken.

Thanks to Cupman (Steven), I now own a 65k Cup engine with brand new cambelt kit on it.

Today I started the process of removing the old engine, I more or less got it to the stage where all I need to do is disconnect the driveshafts, some electrical connections and the rest of the coolant hoses and lift the engine out. That can wait till next weekend.

Anyway, a few pics of how it stands ATM:

Future plans?? As long as we get it running great on the replacement engine and strip the interior out, I'll be happy (for now).

Me too mate. I'd love nothing more than to throw a couple of grand into it but I've got a possible career change coming up with impending few grand worth of courses I need to pay for.

For the foreseeable future, this is a budget project lol.

Not really, just give it death lol. May look into better coilovers but we'll see.

Erm, no plans to use it on the road but always handy to have a spare car there lol. Will primarily be kept road legal for the drive up to Knockhill leaving me to tow the GTI-6 with the X5.

Managed another couple of hours on it today!

Lower inlet removed, coolant hoses removed, engine loom 95% removed, ECU removed and a few other bits done.

Just the dog bone, gearbox mounts, driveshafts, clutch cable and power steering pipe to be disconnected and we're good to pull the engine.

Not too bad considering I've done it all myself.
